The Tokyo National Museum (Tōhaku) museum shops are on the 1st floor of the Main Building (Honkan), the 1st floor of the Toyokan (Asian Gallery), and inside the Main Gate Plaza.
Today’s museum shops are a lot of fun, and I’m always curious about them.

The No. 1 Best-Seller: “Picture Postcards”
The shop’s top seller is postcards. Tōhaku sells them under the label “ehagaki” (picture postcards), ¥100 each (excl. tax).The “picture postcards” are displayed across two wall sections. Great variety!
Food-Related Items
Aside from the overwhelming volume of postcards, food items are the most popular (per shop staff).

Stationery
After food, the next best-movers are said to be stationery items, centered on clear files and notebooks.Stationery such as letter sets and single-sheet note paper also sells well, it seems.

Haniwa Goods
The haniwa-related goods were extensive. The variety on sale is rich — hard to choose.A steady favorite these past few years is the “Haniwa Socks,” ¥400 (excl. tax)

Kaiyodo Collaboration Goods
In May 2019, when I visited, what was displayed by the register was the Tokyo National Museum’s official figure “Fūjin Raijin” (Wind and Thunder Gods).
The renowned “Kaiyodo” meticulously turned the “Wind God and Thunder God Screens by Ogata Kōrin” into a figure.

Crafted by the workshop of sculptor Takayuki Takeya. Quite an intricate build.Of the 3,000 limited units, 700 had already sold at the time (as of early May 2019).The first Tōhaku × Kaiyodo collaboration was a gacha (now sold out); the second was this archaeology miniature.
Other Popular Items
The products are so varied that I couldn’t possibly introduce them all.
Here are a few other items that caught my eye, at random.Among the pricier items, folding-screen (byōbu) products are said to move well.
Many are small folding screens, so prices stayed under about ¥10,000.Woodblock prints were also on sale (produced by Adachi Hanga). You can choose a design from a file.The most expensive item is this: “Hōryū-ji Treasures — Gilt-Bronze Standing Buddha” *replica, priced at ¥360,000 (incl. tax) At 4/5 scale, it stands 29.2 cm tall. Made of resin with gold leaf, it comes with a paulownia box and a booklet detailing the statue.
In Summary
This time I put things together while asking the museum-shop staff.
My impression is that museum shops have greatly sharpened their ability to develop original goods.

가이요도 컬래버 상품
취재한 2019년 5월, 뮤지엄 숍 계산대 옆에 전개되어 있던 것이 도쿄국립박물관 공식 피규어 「후진라이진(바람·천둥 신)」입니다.
「오가타 고린 필 후진라이진도 병풍」을, 잘 알려진 「가이요도」가 정교하게 피규어화한 상품입니다.
도쿄국립박물관에서만 판매되는 공식 굿즈입니다(온라인 숍에서도 판매).가이요도 컬래버 제3탄 상품
조형작가 다케야 다카유키의 공방이 제작. 상당히 정교한 만듦새입니다.한정 3,000체 중 이미 700체가 판매된 상황이었습니다(2019년 5월 상순 기준).도하쿠 × 가이요도 컬래버 제1탄은 가챠(이미 판매 종료), 제2탄이 이 고고학 미니어처입니다.
그 외 인기 상품
판매 상품은 종류가 워낙 풍부해 전부 소개하기는 어렵습니다.
그 외 필자가 주목한 아이템을 무작위로 소개합니다.고가 상품 중에서는 병풍 관련 상품이 잘 나간다고 합니다.
소형 병풍이 많아 가격은 1만 엔을 넘지 않는 정도였습니다.판화도 판매되고 있었습니다(아다치 판화 제작). 파일에서 종류를 고를 수 있습니다.가장 비싼 상품이 이것, 「호류지 헌납 보물 금동여래입상」 ※레플리카, 가격은 36만 엔(세금 포함) 5분의 4 스케일로 높이는 29.2cm. 수지제에 금박을 입혔고, 오동나무 상자와 불상의 상세한 설명이 담긴 소책자가 딸려 있습니다.
