“teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com” is teamLab’s ultra-massive immersive space—an evolution of “DMM.PLANETS Art by teamLab,” which was held in Odaiba, Tokyo in 2016 and closed after just 47 days with wait times exceeding six hours. The previous venue was Odaiba, but this time the project has relocated to Shin-Toyosu.
Also, in what may cause some confusion, at exactly the same time, in Odaiba (nearest stations: Tokyo Teleport or Aomi), Mori Building and teamLab are running a project called “Borderless.” The contents are entirely different, so please take care not to mix them up.

teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com is a limited-time project running through autumn 2020. The content is largely the same as the 2016 iteration (though because the building is different, hardware-side staging and presentation differ in detail).
The venue is a one-minute walk from Shin-Toyosu Station.
The venue is visible right from inside the station.An impressive building. A long-term run through autumn 2020.
This is an event where you wade in water up to your knees. Dress accordingly!
Once you enter, stow your belongings in a locker and lighten your load.
“Waterfall of Light Particles at the Top of an Incline”
You enter through the entrance next to the lockers.
Unlike “Borderless,” at this “Planets” facility visitors move through the works in sequence along a set route.
The approach is dreamlike, and you proceed with a sense of anticipation. The cool air feels wonderful. In the height of midsummer, entering the venue is a real relief. The heatwave of 2018 was truly brutal…
A fantastical atmosphere
A single pillar of light is visible in the distance.
Water flows down from above like a stream, splashing onto your feet. The surface is treated to prevent slipping, so you can advance without stress—but the identity of that pillar of light draws you in.
The nature of the streaks of light is revealed.

This time the floor is soft and springy, and the sensation underfoot changes. So much fun!

As you continue, eyes acclimated to darkness are reawakened by an encounter with a work made of light.

This is an area where you interact with koi swimming in cold water. So vast that you lose sight of the exit.
When a koi collides with a person, it seems to scatter into flowers. An interactive work.
Between the coolness of the water and the pleasing sights, you lose track of time.
Expanding Three-dimensional Existence in Transforming Space – Free Floating, 12 Colors
This piece was not part of the previous edition. The colors of the light shift here as well.
Essentially, it is a room of “big balloons.” For me personally, it was the area where I spent the least time.
Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers
Last time you could lie down and view the work, but this time the setup encouraged sitting instead. Personally, I felt more immersion last time. The illusion that your brain has drifted off somewhere is delightful. I’m including both the official video and one I filmed myself.
Summary
The ticket price has gone up from last time. 3,200 yen is not cheap. This price is the same as “Borderless”, which is running at the same time in Odaiba. Visitors who experience both are likely to raise an eyebrow. Clearly, “you spend more time inside Borderless.” (Whether you enjoy each is a personal matter, so I’ll refrain from commenting on that.)
For me, this was my second visit since 2016, so I inevitably compared it to the previous experience and to “Borderless”—but tickets are available on the day of the visit, so if you have never experienced teamLab’s work, starting here might be a solid option.

“teamLab Planets TOKYO DMM.com”是teamLab的超大型沉浸式空间，源自2016年于东京·台场举办、因等候超过6小时而在47天内闭幕的”DMM.PLANETS Art by teamLab”的进化版。上一次的场地是台场，本次移至新丰洲重新启动。

또한, 혼란스러울 수 있지만 완전히 같은 시기에 오다이바(가장 가까운 역은 도쿄 텔레포트 또는 아오미역)에서도 Mori Building과 teamLab의 프로젝트 “Borderless”가 전개되고 있습니다. 완전히 다른 콘텐츠이므로 절대 혼동하지 마시기 바랍니다.

“Waterfall of Light Particles at the Top of an Incline”（비탈길 위의 빛의 폭포）
사물함과 인접한 입구에서 입장합니다.
이 시설의 “Planets”는 “Borderless”와 달리 관람객이 정해진 순서에 따라 순차적으로 돌아보는 방식입니다.
접근로는 환상적이며, 긴장감을 느끼면서 나아갑니다. 서늘한 공기가 기분 좋게 느껴집니다. 한여름 폭염 속에서 회장에 들어오면 그 고마움이 새삼 느껴집니다. 2018년의 폭염은 정말 견디기 힘들었지요….

멀리 한 줄기 빛의 기둥이 보입니다
발에 물이 튀듯이 위에서부터 강물처럼 물이 흘러 내려옵니다. 미끄러지지 않도록 가공이 되어 있어 스트레스 없이 나아갈 수 있지만, 빛의 기둥의 정체가 궁금해집니다.
빛줄기의 정체가 밝혀집니다.

물에 젖은 발을 수건으로 닦으며 나아갑니다.
이번 바닥은 푹신푹신하고 발의 촉감이 변화합니다. 재미있다!
일상에서는 좀처럼 경험할 수 없는 발의 감각 변화가 신기합니다.
그 앞에 기다리는 것 또한 우리의 촉감을 시험하는 듯한 작품입니다.
몸을 제어할 수 없어 좀처럼 앞으로 나아가지 못합니다….

계속 나아가면 그동안 어둠에 익숙해져 있던 시각이 되살아나듯이 빛의 아트 작품과 마주하게 됩니다.

차갑게 느껴지는 물속에서 헤엄치는 잉어와 어우러지는 구역입니다. 넓어서 출구가 보이지 않을 정도입니다.
잉어는 사람과 부딪히면 꽃이 되어 흩어지는 듯합니다. 인터랙티브한 작품이네요.
물의 시원함과 기분 좋은 시각에 시간을 잊게 됩니다.

이전에는 없었던 작품이 이것입니다. 이 장소도 빛의 색이 변화합니다.
기본적으로 “큰 풍선”의 방입니다. 필자로서는 가장 체류 시간이 짧은 구역이 되었습니다.

이전에는 누워서 봤지만, 이번에는 앉아서 보도록 유도되는 세팅이었습니다. 필자로서는 이전이 더 몰입감을 체감할 수 있었습니다. 뇌가 어딘가로 날아가 버리는 듯한 착각이 즐겁습니다. 공식 영상과 필자가 촬영한 영상을 함께 게재합니다.
정리
이전보다 티켓 가격이 올랐습니다. 3200엔은 결코 저렴하지 않습니다. 이 가격은 같은 시기에 오다이바에서 전개되고 있는 “Borderless”와 동일한 요금입니다. 둘을 동시에 체험한 사람은 “음…!” 하고 갸웃하게 될 것 같습니다. 명백히 “Borderless가 체류 시간이 더 깁니다”. ※즐길 수 있는지는 개인차가 있으므로 코멘트는 삼가겠습니다.
필자로서는 2016년 이후 두 번째 체험이라 아무래도 지난 번 체험이나 “Borderless”와 비교하게 되지만, 당일에도 티켓을 구할 수 있다는 점에서, teamLab의 콘텐츠를 접해본 적이 없다면 이쪽부터 체험해보는 것도 좋겠지요.
