The opening exhibition of the Yayoi Kusama Museum, centered on the latest painting series “My Eternal Soul.”
In addition to 16 works from “My Eternal Soul,” we introduce recent works by Yayoi Kusama, including the monochrome drawing series “Love is Eternal” which preceded this series, the latest installation works created for the opening of this museum, and new three-dimensional pumpkin works displayed on the rooftop.

Reservation Opening

Since tickets were difficult to obtain, on November 1, 2017 (Wednesday) at 10:00, I attempted to connect to the internet just as reservations began.

The Yayoi Kusama Museum operates on a date-specified reservation and capacity system for safe and comfortable viewing of the exhibitions, with each session lasting 90 minutes with a capacity of 70 people per rotation.
Ticket sales for the following two months begin at 10:00 (Japan Standard Time) on the 1st of each month.

The museum is closed Mondays through Wednesdays, and at the beginning of the year it only operates from the 16th onward, so there were limited options. Due to the small number of choices, the competition appeared to be higher than usual.

Sold Out in 10 Minutes

To get straight to the point, tickets sold out in 10 minutes. In other words, starting at 10:00, they were completely sold out in 10 minutes.

Recommended Way to Obtain Tickets

I accessed the site at exactly 10:00. At first I tried several weekend time slots, but the response from the server was “already sold out.” I changed my strategy and shifted my aim to weekday Thursday or Friday. As a result, I barely managed to get 2 tickets.

Since weekends have higher competition, targeting weekdays will definitely increase your chances. The most competitive slots appear to be weekends, and especially those with a gallery talk where you can hear from the museum director. Information is available on the official website, so please refer to it.

Also, I used both a PC and smartphone, but the smartphone (iPhone7) was easier to access. I wonder if there is a reason for this?

However, when I checked ticket resale sites, sure enough they were there!

The 1,000 yen tickets were being traded at an astounding price of 12,000 yen…!

It appears that around 200 people have registered for new arrival alerts as well. I hope the tickets reach people who truly want to visit.
