ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2020
The contemporary-art fair “ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2020” (abbreviated AiPHT) will be held at Park Hotel Tokyo.

A total of 42 galleries (16 from Tokyo, 22 from outside Tokyo, 2 from Taiwan, 2 from Korea) will exhibit, transforming hotel rooms into galleries where contemporary artworks will be displayed and sold.

AiPHT 2020 brings together internationally active artists and the hottest emerging talents alike. A wooden sculpture with a striking, beautiful expression by Katsura Funakoshi — one of Japan’s most representative sculptors — will be presented by Nishimura Gallery.

Kodai Nakahara, who has been expanding the concept of sculpture using various materials and media since the 1980s, will exhibit a rare monochrome print series from Gallery Nomart. It will be a chance to see it together with the monochrome works by Kohei Nawa also shown by the same gallery.

POETIC SCAPE, exhibiting at AiPHT for the first time, will present the signature series “EYES” by Hiroshi Nomura, who has been active since the 1990s.
By adding eyeballs to the most ordinary everyday scenes, the work evokes a strange presence — its conceptual, comical charm is what makes it appealing.

Yukihiro Yamagami, born in the 1970s, will present works from his acclaimed series in which he projects video shot from the same viewpoint onto minutely painted landscape canvases — an original method he calls “Canvas Projection,” which has been highly regarded at domestic museums as well.

Shotaro Hokari, also born in the 1980s, began working with wax as a material about ten years ago when he first started drawing attention, and will present “Studies for Melancholia I,” a work whose combination of a modernist head sculpture and an abstract pedestal is uniquely engaging.

Kurumi Kotani, born in the 1990s, will present her popular series inspired by traces left by someone touching a fogged-up window pane, along with new works. Her latest pieces have been selling out almost entirely — one to watch.

Among the artists shown by overseas galleries, Korean artist Jeong-ju Jeong — who has pursued the relationship between “seeing and being seen” through various structures and video installations — is another highlight. He will present a 3D animation whose motifs are rooms and windows in places where he has lived or stayed.

현대미술 아트페어 “ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2020″(약칭: AiPHT)가 Park Hotel Tokyo에서 개최됩니다.

총 42개 갤러리(도쿄 16곳, 도쿄 외 22곳, 대만 2곳, 한국 2곳)가 참여해, 호텔 객실을 갤러리로 꾸며 현대미술 작품을 전시·판매합니다.

AiPHT 2020에서는 국제적으로 활약하는 작가부터 지금 주목받는 젊은 작가까지 한자리에 모입니다. 일본을 대표하는 조각가 Katsura Funakoshi의 아름다운 표정이 인상적인 목조 작품이 Nishimura Gallery에서 전시됩니다.
80년대부터 다양한 소재와 매체를 사용해 조각의 개념을 확장해 온 Kodai Nakahara는 진귀한 모노크롬 판화 시리즈를 Gallery Nomart에서 출품합니다. 같은 갤러리에서 전시되는 Kohei Nawa의 모노크롬 작품과 함께 감상할 수 있는 기회가 될 것 같습니다.

AiPHT 첫 출품인 POETIC SCAPE에서는 90년대부터 활동해 온 Hiroshi Nomura의 대표작 《EYES》가 출품됩니다.
평범한 일상에 눈알을 붙이면 묘한 기운이 감도는, 개념적이면서도 유쾌한 재미가 매력인 작품입니다.

또한 70년대생 Yukihiro Yamagami는 정밀하게 묘사한 풍경화에 동일 시점에서 촬영한 영상을 투사하는 독자적 기법 “Canvas Projection”으로 국내 미술관에서도 높이 평가받은 일련의 작품을 출품합니다.

역시 80년대생인 Shotaro Hokari는 주목받기 시작한 10년쯤 전부터 “왁스”를 소재로 사용해 왔으며, 모던한 두상 조각과 추상적 받침대의 조합이 독특한 《Studies for Melancholia I》을 출품합니다.

90년대생 Kurumi Kotani는 결로된 창유리에 누군가가 만진 흔적을 모티프로 한 인기 시리즈를 비롯해 신작도 출품할 예정입니다. 최근 거의 완판되는 그녀의 신작을 주목해 주세요.
해외 갤러리 참여 작가 중에서는, 다양한 구조물과 영상 장치를 통해 “보는 것, 보이는 것”의 관계를 탐구해 온 한국 작가 Jeong-ju Jeong의 출품도 주목할 만합니다. 자신이 살거나 머물렀던 방과 창을 모티프로 한 3D 애니메이션을 출품합니다.
