“Roppongi Crossing” is a series of exhibitions held once every three years by Mori Art Museum since 2004, offering a fixed-point survey of the Japanese contemporary art scene.
The 6th edition, held this time, marks a series first: it is co-curated exclusively by three Mori Art Museum curators (Reiko Tsubaki, Hiroshi Tokuyama, and Haruko Kumakura), and introduces around 25 Japanese artist groups, primarily born in the 1970s and 80s.

“Roppongi Crossing 2019: Connexions” focuses on the “connections” that come into view through contemporary expression.
As information and communication technology and various other technologies evolve at accelerating speed, our lives become more convenient — but new problems arising from that are also coming to the surface.
Even as the diversity of values has come to be recognized, the internet — supposedly open — has, especially in the realm of social media, encouraged the alignment and reinforcement of opinion and perception, paradoxically creating closed communities. Frictions born of biased political views, ever-widening economic disparities — a variety of “divisions” seem to be surfacing.
Against this backdrop, artists use their work to present all kinds of “connections” — linking opposites, fusing the heterogeneous, and making visible the ties that were already inherently there. These offer a critical viewpoint on contemporary society and a shift in perspective, and they may become hints for how to face those “divisions.” I hope the new “connections” that emerge from this exhibition will provide a meaningful opportunity to confront the “now” of Japan.

「Roppongi Crossing」是 Mori Art Museum 自 2004 年以来每三年举办一次的系列展，以定点观测的方式概览日本当代艺术景观。
本次为第 6 届，作为系列首次尝试，全部由 Mori Art Museum 三位策展人（椿玲子、德山拓一、熊仓晴子）共同策划，介绍约 25 组以 1970〜80 年代出生为主的日本艺术家。

「Roppongi Crossing」은 Mori Art Museum이 3년에 한 번, 일본 현대 미술 신을 정점 관측적으로 개관해 온 시리즈 전시로, 2004년 이래 개최되어 왔습니다.
6번째가 되는 이번 개최에서는 시리즈 최초의 시도로서, Mori Art Museum의 세 명의 큐레이터(Reiko Tsubaki, Hiroshi Tokuyama, Haruko Kumakura)만으로 공동 큐레이션을 진행해, 1970〜80년대생을 중심으로 한 일본인 아티스트 약 25개 팀을 소개합니다.

「Roppongi Crossing 2019: Connexions」은 현대의 표현을 통해 보이는 「연결」에 주목합니다.
정보통신기술 등 다양한 테크놀로지가 가속도적으로 진화하고, 우리의 생활이 편리해져 가는 한편, 그로부터 기인하는 새로운 문제들 또한 부상하고 있습니다.
가치관의 다양성이 인정받게 된 한편으로, 열린 공간이어야 할 인터넷이, 특히 SNS에서는 의견이나 인식의 동조와 공감을 조장하며, 역설적으로 폐쇄적인 커뮤니티를 만들어 내는 문제, 편향된 정치관이 낳는 마찰이나 확대되어 가는 경제 격차 등, 다양한 「분단」이 뚜렷해지고 있는 듯합니다.
이러한 상황 속에서, 대극에 있는 것을 잇는 일, 이질적인 것을 융합하는 일, 본래부터 존재하는 연결을 가시화하는 일 등, 아티스트들은 작품을 통해 다양한 「연결」을 제시합니다. 그것들은 현대 사회에 대한 비평적 시선이자 발상의 전환이기도 하며, 「분단」을 마주하기 위한 힌트가 될 수 있을지도 모릅니다. 본전에서 태어나는 새로운 「연결」이 일본의 「지금」과 마주할 수 있는 유의미한 기회가 되기를 기대합니다.
