We visited “WAVE 2019,” a large-scale exhibition of illustration works. The venue was 3331 Arts Chiyoda.
“WAVE 2019” venue: 3331 Arts Chiyoda
The “WAVE” exhibition first drew attention in 2018 as an exhibition of illustration (the 2018 exhibition was titled “Illustration WAVE”).
It was a large-scale show featuring prominent illustrators alongside younger emerging artists.
This edition expands its scope beyond illustration to include fine art and graphic design, broadening the generations, careers, and categories of the participating artists, and scaling up considerably.
Alongside works by graphic designers and graphic artists such as Tsuguya Inoue, groovisions, and Mitsuo Shindo, the show also featured distinctive artists such as Keiichi Tanaami, Otomoai, HAMADARAKA, Kosuke Kawamura, and Ryoji Arai.
The exhibition is also structured to include the sale of works (some artists’ works are not for sale).
It is an exhibition that also offers the pleasure of art collecting.

With an admission fee of 1,000 yen, we were able to view the show comfortably without the usual crowding of a popular exhibition.
The initiative that allows you to purchase works is also a nice touch.
With so many artists participating, we encountered many names for the first time and found several whose future work we would like to follow.
We look forward to the exhibition continuing in future years.
3331 Arts Chiyoda
