I went to a solo exhibition by the visual artist Tomoyoshi Sakamoto. I slipped in at the very last minute on the closing day, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017. The show made use of two venues in Asakusabashi — Art Lab TOKYO & Art Lab AKIBA (the same floor of the same building).
The exhibition opens right at the entrance with the F10 “Eye Test” tetralogy. It depicts a young woman in a contemporary style. Portraying pretty women with a cynical edge seems to be his signature, so you mustn’t let yourself be captivated by their beauty alone.
Three of the four works in the series were already sold (priced at 300,000 yen each). As it was the closing day, the other works were also roughly 80% sold.

The beauty-themed works were almost entirely sold out.
In Closing
Works that seem to depict beautiful women in pursuit of an ideal. Precisely because of that, they lack reality and feel devoid of human warmth. It is as if the male ego has been projected straight onto the canvas, leaving no sense of the real. Perhaps that is why the impression is of poison and pain radiating from the women on the canvas, fired directly toward the viewer.
They seem to carry a message like a banner of revolt raised by the women themselves — a rather tense exhibition.
我去看了美术家Tomoyoshi Sakamoto的个展。我在最后一天——2017年12月24日的平安夜——才勉强赶上。这是一场使用了浅草桥的Art Lab TOKYO & Art Lab AKIBA两处场地（同一栋楼的同一层）的展览。
미술 작가 Tomoyoshi Sakamoto의 개인전에 다녀왔습니다. 아슬아슬하게 미끄러지듯 찾은 것이 마지막 날인 2017년 12월 24일 크리스마스 이브였습니다. 아사쿠사바시의 Art Lab TOKYO & Art Lab AKIBA 두 곳(같은 건물의 같은 층)을 사용한 전시입니다.
들어서자마자 있는 층에서, F10호 「Eye Test」 4연작 작품부터 전시가 시작됩니다. 젊은 여성을 현대적으로 묘사하고 있습니다. 사랑스러운 여성을 냉소적으로 표현하는 것이 그의 스타일인 듯하니, 여성의 아름다움에만 눈을 빼앗겨서는 안 됩니다.
4연작 중 세 점이 판매 완료(가격은 한 점당 30만 엔)였습니다. 다른 작품들도 마지막 날이라 8할 정도가 판매된 상황이었습니다.
최고의 대작(S100호) 「Diamond」 1,650,000엔
미녀 계열의 작품은 거의 완판 상태였습니다.
맺음말
아름다운 여성을 이상을 좇아 그린 듯한 작품. 그런 만큼 리얼리티가 없어 인간적인 온기가 느껴지지 않습니다. 남성 쪽의 에고가 그대로 캔버스에 투영된 듯하여 현실감이 없습니다. 그 때문인지, 캔버스 속 여성으로부터 발산되는 독과 아픔이 이쪽을 향해 발사되고 있는 듯한 인상입니다.
여성 쪽에서의 반기와도 같은 메시지성이 담겨 있는 듯하여, 상당히 긴장감 있는 전시였습니다.
