Prada Rong Zhai
We visited Prada Rong Zhai, a Shanghai museum operated by the luxury brand PRADA, housed in a century-old mansion that took six years to restore.

WeChat has become ubiquitous in China, and tickets to Prada Rong Zhai must also be reserved and paid for in advance via WeChat Pay. However, WeChat Pay cannot be used without a Chinese bank account, so it is not possible to book (as of November 2019). We decided to head there in person to see whether we could purchase something like a same-day ticket by paying in cash.

Two security guards stand at the entrance of Prada Rong Zhai and ask visitors to present their tickets (they do not speak English). Since we had no reservation, we could not enter, but an English-speaking female PRADA staff member came out from inside to help us.
It was a Friday around 7 p.m., and by some miracle there were few visitors and the interior was quiet. The security guard used his smartphone to purchase two tickets for us, we handed over cash, and we were able to enter without any trouble (what fantastic service!).
Normally, even with a reservation there can be lines at certain times, so we simply got lucky. Yet the hospitality from staff went far beyond this — the many staff members who assisted us during our visit all provided outstanding service.

On view at the time was “Rear Windows,” a solo exhibition by Chinese artist Li Qing.
Taking “windows” as its theme, the show expresses the concept through painting, sculpture, photography, video, and many other media.
The exhibition treats Prada Rong Zhai itself as a “home,” with each room organized around its own theme.
The interior of Prada Rong Zhai — from the stained glass in the windows and ceilings to the floors, walls, and staircase railings — retains the history of the old mansion while realizing itself as a high-caliber museum. The building alone is worth the visit. It made for a wonderfully comfortable stay.
The many PRADA women stationed throughout the museum observe your pace and approach you at just the right moment. They are also well-trained in explaining the works, which greatly enhanced our impression of the brand.
Compared to Fondazione Prada in Milan, Italy, this is a museum of a completely different character and scale, but it is a wonderful, tranquil place all its own.

我们前往参观了奢侈品牌”PRADA”经营的上海美术馆Prada Rong Zhai。这是一座耗时六年翻新的百年历史宅邸。

中国WeChat已高度普及,Prada Rong Zhai的入场券也需通过WeChat Pay事先预约与支付。然而WeChat Pay必须绑定中国国内银行账户方可使用,因此无法预约(截至2019年11月)。我们决定先直接前往现场,看看能否通过现金支付等方式购买当日票。

Prada Rong Zhai入口有两位门卫保安,会要求出示门票(不会说英文)。由于未预约本不能入场,但馆内一位会说英语的PRADA女性员工出来接待了我们。

럭셔리 브랜드 “PRADA”가 운영하는, 100년 된 저택을 6년에 걸쳐 리노베이션한 상하이의 미술관 Prada Rong Zhai를 방문했습니다.

중국은 WeChat이 널리 보급되어 있어, Prada Rong Zhai 입장권 역시 WeChat Pay를 이용한 사전 예약과 결제가 필요합니다. 그러나 WeChat Pay는 중국 국내 은행 계좌가 없으면 사용할 수 없기 때문에 예약이 불가능합니다(2019년 11월 기준). 일단 현지에 가서 현금 결제 등으로 당일권 같은 것을 구할 수 있는지 알아보기로 했습니다.

Prada Rong Zhai 입구에는 문지기 경비원이 2명 있어 티켓 제시를 요구합니다(영어는 하지 못합니다). 예약이 없어 들어갈 수 없었지만, 안에 있던 영어를 구사할 수 있는 PRADA의 여성 스태프가 나와 응대해 주었습니다.
금요일 19시경으로 기적적으로 손님이 적어 관내가 여유로웠던 덕분에, 경비원의 스마트폰으로 저희 두 명의 티켓을 구매하고 현금을 건네 무사히 입장할 수 있었습니다(신의 응대!).
평소에는 예약을 해도 대기 줄이 생기는 시간대가 있다고 하니 그저 운이 좋았을 뿐이지만, 스태프의 호스피탈리티는 이것에 그치지 않았고, 관람 도중 응대해 준 여러 스태프 모두 한결같이 뛰어난 서비스를 보여주었습니다.

방문 당시 열리고 있던 것은 중국 아티스트 Li Qing의 개인전 “Rear Windows”.
“창”이라는 주제를 작품에 담아, 회화·조각·사진·영상 등 다양한 기법으로 표현하고 있습니다.
본 전시에서는 Prada Rong Zhai를 “집”으로 삼아, 각 방마다 테마를 설정한 전시 구성이 이루어졌습니다.
Prada Rong Zhai 관내는 창과 천장의 스테인드글라스, 바닥과 벽, 계단 난간에 이르기까지 옛 저택의 역사를 간직하면서도 고품격 미술관으로 완성되어 있었습니다. 건물을 감상하는 것만으로도 충분한 가치가 있다고 생각합니다. 매우 쾌적한 체류 시간이었습니다.
또한 상당한 인원의 PRADA 여성 스태프가 관내에 배치되어, 이쪽의 상황을 지켜보며 절묘한 타이밍에 말을 걸어 옵니다. 작품 설명도 제대로 교육받았기에 브랜드에 대한 호감도가 상승했습니다.
이탈리아 밀라노에 위치한 Fondazione Prada와는 성격이 다른 미술관으로 규모 역시 전혀 다르지만, 차분한 분위기의 훌륭한 미술관이었습니다.
