I visited Geisai 2018 again this year.
Brushing against the raw energy of talented students and their drive to master their craft, I feel as if I’m being drawn in — and a pleasant feeling wells up.Please see below for what Geisai was like.
The Geisai Art Market
A bit away from the Geidai campus, in Ueno Park, is a selling event called the “Geisai Art Market.” Along the park path leading from the Ueno Park plaza in front of the Tokyo National Museum toward Geidai, booths are set up, each selling a wide range of goods — a regular fixture of the festival.A relaxed venue and a pleasant spaceI always buy a draft beer at the food-and-drink area operating on the music-building side of Geidai before heading into the art market. It’s one of the very best ways to enjoy it.Yakitori seemed especially popular — inside a Geidai buildingAt one booth, Geidai student Yuta Fukasawa was drawing caricatures (¥1,000 each).Caricatures were being done at other booths too, and seemed to be a popular attraction.Artworks were on sale at the same time: small pieces, but a postcard-size watercolor went for ¥2,000 and an oil painting about size 0 for ¥5,000 — affordable prices that sold quite well.Yuta Fukasawa at work.The booths gather along the park path connecting Ueno Park and Geidai.
With many accessory-focused stalls, it seemed a lot of women had gathered.Ceramics and such were also for sale, but the best pieces were marked “not for sale” — moments that made me think, “That’s a Geidai student for you!”There was a high-quality “yuteki tenmoku” (oil-spot glaze) tea bowl.Even if you buy nothing, just looking at the works on sale at the booths is fun.
Held once a year, in the first or second week of September. It was still a slightly summery, warm day, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. And of course, together with the main event, “Geisai”!

게이사이 아트 마켓
게이다이 캠퍼스에서 조금 떨어진 우에노 공원에서 열리는 것이 「게이사이 아트 마켓」이라는 판매 기획입니다. 도쿄국립박물관 바로 앞의 우에노 공원 광장에서 게이다이로 향하는 공원길에 부스가 설치되어, 각자 폭넓은 품목을 판매하는 단골 기획입니다.여유로운 회장으로 기분 좋은 공간입니다필자는 게이다이 음악관 쪽에서 영업하는 음식 구역에서 생맥주를 사고 나서 아트 마켓에 참여합니다. 이것이 최고로 즐기는 방법 중 하나입니다.야키토리의 인기가 높았던 것 같습니다～게이다이 교사 내부스 중 하나에서는 게이다이 학생 후카사와 유타가 캐리커처를 그리고 있었습니다(1장 1,000엔).캐리커처는 다른 부스에서도 진행하고 있어 인기 기획이었던 모양입니다.작품도 함께 판매하고 있었는데, 소품이지만 엽서 크기의 수채화는 2,000엔, 0호 정도의 유화는 5,000엔이라는 저렴한 가격으로 판매되어 꽤 잘 팔렸습니다.제작 중인 후카사와 유타 씨.부스가 모이는 곳은 우에노 공원과 게이다이를 잇는 공원길입니다.
액세서리 계열 판매 부스가 많았던 탓도 있어 여성들이 많이 모여 있었던 것 같습니다.도자기 등도 판매되고 있었지만, 잘 만든 작품은 「비매품」으로 되어 있어 「역시 게이다이 학생!」이라고 느끼는 장면도 있었습니다.퀄리티 높은 「유테키 덴모쿠(유적천목)」 찻사발이 있었습니다.아무것도 사지 않아도 부스에서 판매되는 작품을 보는 것만으로도 즐거운 기획입니다.
매년 한 번, 9월 첫째 주 또는 둘째 주에 개최. 아직 약간 여름 더위가 느껴지는 날이었지만, 분명 즐길 수 있는 기획이라고 생각합니다. 물론 메인 기획 「게이사이」와 함께!
陶器なども販売されていましたが、出来の良い作品が「非売品」となっていて、さすが藝大生！と感じる場面もありました。
