Among the many venues of the fuori salone, when the entire city turns into a showroom during the Salone del Mobile, the exhibition that lingered most deeply in memory was that of Bocci. Marking Bocci’s 20th anniversary, the show presented new works by creative director Omer Arbel alongside pieces from earlier series.
The venue, Bocci Milan Apartment
Based in Vancouver, Canada, Bocci was founded in 2005 by architect and designer Omer Arbel. Its stance of respecting the accidents of glass and the hand of the craftsman lends every product the individuality of a one-off piece. The series are named simply with numbers, and while each object is a product, a conceptual-art-like line of thought runs through them all.

A glass installation was staged inside a room of a historic mansion.
In a stillness reminiscent of a museum, one could experience the sensation of light “floating” in space — a poetic world that only Bocci can create.
Every Bocci light is made by hand, and individual variations are clearly present.
It is precisely this individuality — this uniqueness — that forms the core of Bocci’s aesthetic, making each piece feel truly like an art object.

Simple yet possessed of depth, the pieces change impression according to angle and distance. The light sources are extremely subdued — less lighting fixtures than presences of light scattered through the space.

Bocci’s lighting exists not as light meant to brightly illuminate, but as “light that harmonises with the space.”

Salone del Mobile 밀라노 살로네 기간 중, 도시 전체가 쇼룸으로 변모하는 fuori salone(푸오리 살로네) 가운데 가장 깊이 기억에 남은 것은 Bocci의 전시였습니다. Bocci 창립 20주년을 기념하여 크리에이티브 디렉터 Omer Arbel의 신작과 지금까지의 시리즈 작품들이 전시되었습니다.

캐나다 밴쿠버를 거점으로 하는 Bocci는 건축가이자 디자이너인 Omer Arbel에 의해 2005년에 설립되었습니다. 유리의 우연성과 장인의 손기술을 존중하는 그 태도는 모든 제품에 단 하나뿐인 작품과 같은 개성을 부여합니다. 시리즈마다 번호로 명명되며, 제품이면서도 개념 미술과 같은 사상이 저변에 흐르고 있는 것이 특징입니다.

역사 있는 저택의 한 방에 펼쳐진 것은 유리로 이루어진 인스톨레이션이었습니다.
미술관과 같은 고요함 속에서, 빛이 공간에 “떠 있는” 감각을 체험할 수 있는, 그야말로 Bocci만의 시적인 세계가 펼쳐져 있었습니다.
Bocci의 조명은 모두 수작업으로 제작되어 개체 차이가 분명히 존재합니다.
오히려 그 개체 차이=유일성이야말로 Bocci 미학의 핵심이며, 그 자체가 하나의 아트 피스와 같습니다.

심플하면서도 깊이가 있어, 보는 각도와 거리에 따라 인상이 달라집니다. 광원은 극도로 절제되어 있어, 조명이라기보다는 오히려 공간에 점점이 자리한 빛의 기척과도 같습니다.

Bocci의 조명은 밝게 비추기 위한 빛이 아니라, “공간과 조화를 이루는 빛”으로서 존재하고 있었습니다.
