Cecily Brown（セシリーブラウン）の個展「The end is a new start (終わりは新しい始まり)」に伺いました。会場はBLUM & POE東京（原宿）です。

本展はBlum & Poe初、日本初の展覧会です。

セシリー・ブラウンは、世界的トップギャラリーGagosianに所属する女性画家で、1969年ロンドン⽣まれです。抽象と具象が入り混じった身振りを伴った大きなスケールの絵画作品によってその名を知られてきた作家です。

その作品が参照とするモチーフは、古典、近代の絵画からポップミュージックのアルバムカバーにまで及び、セクシャリティや欲望についての批判を湛えたあくなき問いを続けてきました。

本展では、作家が近年探求してきた「難破船」という歴史的表象についての考察、そして30年にもわたるキャリアの中で生まれてきた自身の作品を土台とした新しい探究という二つのテーマに取り組んでいます。

時代をリードする現役トップスター・アーティストの作品価格は、小さい作品でも数千万円にも昇りますが、それでもコレクション出来るコレクターは少数です。

セシリー・ブラウンの絵画は、複雑で繊細な筆致が幾重にも折り重なり、鑑賞者の想像力が果てしなく広がっていくような作品でした。

I visited Cecily Brown’s solo exhibition “The end is a new start.” The venue is BLUM & POE Tokyo (Harajuku).

This exhibition is the first for Blum & Poe and Cecily Brown’s first exhibition in Japan.

Cecily Brown is a female painter represented by Gagosian, one of the world’s top-tier galleries, and was born in London in 1969. She has become known for her large-scale paintings that combine abstract and figurative gestural mark-making.

The motifs referenced in her works range from classical and modern painting to pop music album covers, and she has continued relentless inquiry brimming with critique of sexuality and desire.

In this exhibition, the artist engages with two themes: her recent exploration into the historical representation of “shipwrecks,” and a new inquiry grounded in her own body of work built up over a career spanning three decades.

The prices for works by leading, era-defining top-tier artists can climb to tens of millions of yen even for smaller pieces, and only a handful of collectors can afford to collect them.

Cecily Brown’s paintings, with their layered, intricate, and delicate brushwork, felt like works in which the viewer’s imagination expands endlessly.

我造访了Cecily Brown（塞西莉·布朗）的个展”The end is a new start（终结即新的开始）”。展场为BLUM & POE东京（原宿）。

本次展览是Blum & Poe首次、也是艺术家在日本的首次展览。

Cecily Brown是隶属于世界顶级画廊Gagosian的女性画家，1969年出生于伦敦。她以抽象与具象交织、带有身体动势的大尺幅绘画作品闻名。

其作品所参照的母题从古典与近代绘画延伸至流行音乐的专辑封面，持续以对性别与欲望的批判进行不懈追问。

本次展览呈现了艺术家近年探索的两大主题：对”沉船”这一历史表象的思考，以及以自身长达三十年艺术生涯所积累的作品为基础展开的全新探索。

引领时代的顶尖当红艺术家的作品，即便是小尺幅也动辄数千万日元，能收藏得起的藏家寥寥无几。

Cecily Brown的绘画笔触繁复而细腻、层层叠叠，令观者的想象力得以无限延展。

이번 전시는 Blum & Poe로서는 최초, 작가로서도 일본 최초의 전시입니다.

Cecily Brown은 세계 최고의 갤러리 Gagosian 소속의 여성 화가로, 1969년 런던에서 태어났습니다. 추상과 구상이 뒤섞인 몸짓을 동반한 대형 스케일의 회화 작품으로 이름을 알려온 작가입니다.

그녀의 작품이 참조하는 모티프는 고전·근대 회화에서 팝 음악 앨범 커버에 이르기까지 폭넓으며, 섹슈얼리티와 욕망에 대한 비판을 담은 끈질긴 물음을 이어왔습니다.

이번 전시에서는 작가가 최근 탐구해 온 “난파선”이라는 역사적 표상에 대한 고찰, 그리고 30년에 이르는 커리어 속에서 축적된 자신의 작품을 토대로 한 새로운 탐구, 이 두 가지 주제를 다루고 있습니다.

시대를 이끄는 현역 톱스타 아티스트의 작품 가격은 소품이라 하더라도 수천만 엔에 이르며, 그마저도 소장할 수 있는 컬렉터는 극소수에 불과합니다.

Cecily Brown의 회화는 복잡하고 섬세한 필치가 겹겹이 쌓여, 감상자의 상상력이 끝없이 확장되어 가는 듯한 작품이었습니다.
