「Mosh Pitは、役目を終えたスケートボードの傷ついた美しい姿にフォーカスした作品です。スケートボードのグラフィックは、スケーターの繰り出すトリックによって各々の形に傷ついて（ペインティングされて）、その美しさは完成形に向かい、と同時に、終局にも向かっていきます。まるでMosh Pitのようにスケーターのぶつかり合うようなパッションを、その結晶でもあるスケートボードによってそのまま作品に閉じ込めたのです。 GUZOはスケーターを支えてきたスケートボード自体の自己犠牲の精神を尊いものとし、それを神格化した神像です。スケートボードの傷ついていく様は、まるで “ the passion of the skateboard “ といっても良いような、ドラマチックなもので、僕らの代わりに傷ついていくスケートボードを神様として復活させなくてはと思いました。 ソフビのシリーズは、子供の頃に僕らの手によって砂場やお風呂場で繰り広げられた激しい死闘の末、傷だらけになり破損したソフビ人形達を、大人になった僕らが今、またコンクリート上で激しい死闘を繰り広げ、深手を負わせたスケートボードによって修復し、傷ついた両者がお互いの足りない部分を補いながら、新たな形に進化していく物語です。」〜Haroshi

I visited Haroshi’s solo exhibition “I versus I.” The venue is NANZUKA.

Haroshi, using techniques he self-taught from 2003, creates sculptural works and installations using scrap materials from skateboard decks.

This exhibition is a solo show gathering all-out new works themed on “the battle with oneself.”
The works exhibited this time are broadly composed of three series.
The “GUZO” series
The “GUZO” series is statue works serving as guardian deities for those who love skateboarding and its culture.
The flat work “Mosh Pit”
The “Mosh Pit” series is mosaic flat works that carve up used skate decks, rearrange them flat, and compose as painting the personal history of each skater and the totality of skateboard culture.

Soft-vinyl work series
This is a series of soft-vinyl works symbolizing affection for things that were restored and remodeled from old plastic-vinyl action figures, breathing new life into them to make them reborn.
「Mosh Pit, is a work that focuses on the beautiful, damaged appearance of a skateboard that has finished its role. A skateboard’s graphics are damaged (painted) into each form by the tricks a skater performs, and its beauty heads toward completion while at the same time heading toward its end. Just like a mosh pit, I have enclosed directly into the work, through the skateboard that is its very crystallization, the passion of skaters colliding with one another.
GUZO reveres the self-sacrificing spirit of the skateboard itself that has supported skaters, and is a divine statue that deifies it. The way a skateboard becomes damaged is dramatic—you could even call it “the passion of the skateboard”—and I felt I had to revive, as a god, the skateboard that gets damaged in our stead.
The soft-vinyl series, is a story in which the sofubi dolls—battered and broken after the fierce death-matches we waged with our own hands in sandboxes and bathrooms as children—are, now that we’re adults, repaired by skateboards to which we’ve dealt deep wounds in fierce death-matches on concrete, and the two damaged parties, complementing each other’s missing parts, evolve into a new form.” —Haroshi

소프비（Sofubi） 작품 시리즈
오래된 플라스틱 비닐제 액션 피규어를 수복 개조하여 새로운 생명을 불어넣어 다시 태어나게 한, 물건에 대한 애정을 상징하는 소프비 작품 시리즈입니다.
「Mosh Pit, 는 역할을 끝낸 스케이트보드의 상처 입은 아름다운 모습에 포커스한 작품입니다. 스케이트보드의 그래픽은 스케이터가 펼치는 트릭에 의해 각각의 형태로 상처 입어（페인팅되어）, 그 아름다움은 완성형을 향해 가며, 동시에 종국으로도 향해 갑니다. 마치 Mosh Pit처럼 스케이터가 서로 부딪치는 듯한 열정을, 그 결정이기도 한 스케이트보드에 의해 그대로 작품에 가두었습니다.
GUZO, 는 스케이터를 지탱해 온 스케이트보드 자체의 자기희생 정신을 존귀한 것으로 여기고, 그것을 신격화한 신상입니다. 스케이트보드가 상처 입어 가는 모습은 마치 ” the passion of the skateboard “라고 해도 좋을 만큼 드라마틱한 것으로, 우리를 대신해 상처 입어 가는 스케이트보드를 신으로서 부활시켜야 한다고 생각했습니다.
소프비 시리즈, 는 어린 시절 우리 손으로 모래밭이나 욕실에서 벌인 격렬한 사투 끝에 상처투성이가 되어 파손된 소프비 인형들을, 어른이 된 우리가 지금 다시 콘크리트 위에서 격렬한 사투를 벌여 깊은 상처를 입힌 스케이트보드로 수복하여, 상처 입은 양쪽이 서로 부족한 부분을 보완하며 새로운 형태로 진화해 가는 이야기입니다.」〜Haroshi
