We visited “Utopia,” a solo exhibition by Atsuko Yamashita. The venue is TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY.
Installation view
This is her first solo show at the gallery since “Her,” held about a year ago.
Unlike the works shown in the previous solo exhibition, the pieces in this show are suffused with red hues, with plants painted as if covering the entire picture plane. Thickly built-up grounds and the sparkling luster of the pigments make the works stand out.

With the acquisition of her work by the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art and the release of a crowdfunded art book, 2020 seems to have been a year full of milestones for her.
With each solo exhibition, Atsuko Yamashita reveals a richer world, and we will be watching her future work closely.
