On September 1, 2020, a project to publish “HER,” the art book of highly anticipated young artist Atsuko Yamashita, launched on the crowdfunding platform Motion Gallery.
This is a fundraising project via crowdfunding, and its distinctive feature is that the rewards (artworks) given to supporters are the very works that will be featured in the art book.

Collectors who participate in this project will thus be able to acquire both a work and the art book together as reward items.

Atsuko Yamashita
An artist who graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2018 and has been energetically presenting her work since then, drawing significant attention.
Her practice involves creating a story within herself out of things she has experienced, novels she has read, films and manga she has watched, and then translating that into pictures.
She describes it in these words:
“Every time my paintings grow, so many stories and the girls in them grow too.
And that is also the growth of the painting itself.
Painting pictures the way I breathe.
What a comfortable thing that is.”

Rewards
The rewards prepared for this project cover a wide range, from 3,500 yen up to 200,000 yen.
Reward 1: Atsuko Yamashita art book + Work A (equivalent to size 30) ※200,000yen
Reward 2: Atsuko Yamashita art book + Work B (equivalent to sizes 10–12) ※150,000 yen
Reward 3: Atsuko Yamashita art book + Work C (equivalent to sizes 3–6) ※80,000 yen
Reward 4: Atsuko Yamashita art book + Work D (equivalent to size 2) ※70,000 yen
Reward 5: Atsuko Yamashita art book + Work E (equivalent to size 0) ※50,000 yen

How the funds will be used
All the funds raised will go toward the production costs of the art book.
Because her affiliated gallery, TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, is the publisher, sales of the art book will be paid to Ms. Yamashita herself in the form of royalties.
The gallery has also stated that book sales will be used to cover advertising expenses and participation fees for international art fairs, in order to make the artist more widely known around the world.
Publication of the art book is scheduled to coincide with Ms. Yamashita’s solo exhibition in December 2020.
Furthermore, after the release of the art book, a dedicated website for the project will be launched, on which collectors will be able to upload photos showing the reward works actually installed in their homes.
Please watch closely for a sustainable project that will continue even after the art book’s release, through the connections among collectors supporting Atsuko Yamashita and the art watchers observing them.
