Studio Visit with Takanosuke Yasui
I had the opportunity to visit the studio of Takanosuke Yasui.
The visit took place in mid-February, just before his first solo exhibition “OK Plastic.”

Located in the Nippori area of Arakawa Ward, the studio is inside a detached house.
He rents the entire single-family house and lives on the second floor. The first floor is used as his studio.

This was actually the second time I had visited Yasui’s studio. The previous visit was exactly one year earlier, in February 2019. I was struck by how much the scene had changed since then.

Studio Visit in February 2020
Coming just before his first solo exhibition, many works — mainly those to be exhibited — were on display, and I was able to view a densely packed space that included large-scale pieces.

In autumn 2019, Takanosuke Yasui spent about a month traveling in Europe, where he had time to encounter a great deal of European art. Among them, the works and historical background of Camille Claudel, a disciple of Rodin, particularly moved him, and became the central axis for the works he created for his first solo exhibition.
This exhibition presents works focused on “the sculptor Camille Claudel,” “plasticity,” and “semi-transparent sculpture.”

Yasui graduated from the sculpture department of Tokyo University of the Arts, but compared to before, I felt that flat, two-dimensional works occupy much of his current output.

His first solo exhibition, “OK Plastic,” takes its title from Radiohead’s masterpiece album “OK Computer.” As it happens, the concurrently held solo exhibition of Yukimasa Ida — Yasui’s senior at Tokyo University of the Arts — also uses a title borrowed from the same band’s album.
I look forward to seeing the resounding notes that Takanosuke Yasui will play in his first solo exhibition.

以Radiohead名盘专辑”OK Computer”为引用而命名的首次个展”OK Plastic”。恰逢同时期举办个展的Tokyo University of the Arts前辈Yukimasa Ida(井田幸昌)先生的个展标题，也使用了同一乐队的专辑名。
我期待关注Takanosuke Yasui在首次个展中所奏响的高昂音色。

Takanosuke Yasui(安井鷹之介) 씨의 아틀리에를 방문할 기회를 얻었습니다.
방문한 날은 첫 개인전 “OK Plastic”을 앞둔 2월 중순이었습니다.

아라카와구 닛포리 지역에 자리한 아틀리에는 단독주택 안에 있었습니다.
단독주택 전체를 빌려 2층에 거주. 1층 부분을 아틀리에로 활용하고 있습니다.
2019년 2월 아틀리에 방문
필자가 Yasui 씨의 아틀리에를 방문한 것은 이번이 두 번째였습니다. 지난번은 마침 1년 전인 2019년 2월. 당시의 광경과 크게 변화한 모습에 놀랐습니다.

2020년 2월 아틀리에 방문
첫 개인전 직전이라는 타이밍이기도 하여, 출품 작품을 중심으로 많은 작품이 전시되어 있었으며, 대작을 포함한 밀도 높은 공간을 관람할 수 있었습니다.
도로에 면한 개구부가 넓은 아틀리에벽면에 늘어놓은 작품들 ※개인전 미출품 작품도 포함됩니다.
Takanosuke Yasui는 2019년 가을, 약 한 달간 유럽을 여행하며 많은 유럽 미술을 접하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 그 중에서도 로댕의 제자 Camille Claudel의 작품과 역사적 배경에 감화되어, 첫 개인전의 주축으로 작품을 제작하게 되었습니다.
이번 개인전은 “조각가 Camille Claudel”, “가소성”, “반투명 조각”에 초점을 맞춘 작품들이 전시됩니다.

Tokyo University of the Arts(도쿄예술대학) 조각과를 졸업한 Yasui 씨이지만, 이전에 비해 평면적인 작품이 많은 비중을 차지하고 있는 것처럼 느껴졌습니다.

Radiohead의 명반 “OK Computer”에서 인용한 제목으로 임하는 첫 개인전 “OK Plastic”. 마침 같은 시기에 열리고 있는 Tokyo University of the Arts 선배 Yukimasa Ida(井田幸昌)의 개인전 제목 또한 같은 밴드의 앨범 제목이 사용되고 있습니다.
Takanosuke Yasui가 첫 개인전에서 울려 퍼뜨릴 드높은 음색에 주목하고 싶습니다.
