ギャラリストの小山登美夫さんが監修するHikarie Contemporary Art Eyeシリーズの企画展「９人の眼ー９人のアーティスト」にて、魅力的な作品に出会いました。ミヤム・ハダッド（Miryam Haddad）さんのペインティング作品です。

ミヤム・ハダッドさんは、1991年生まれでシリア出身の若手女性アーティストで、現在はフランス・パリに在住して活動しています。所属のギャラリーは、フランスのGalerie Art Conceptです。
直近での展示は、2018年にGalerie Art Conceptで個展を開催、2019年はカルティエ財団現代美術館のグループ展に出品しました。日本では、2019年11月19日～2020年1月13日まで、札幌芸術の森美術館で開催された「タグチ・アートコレクション 球体のパレット」展でも出品されました。
At the exhibition “Nine Eyes — Nine Artists” in the Hikarie Contemporary Art Eye series supervised by gallerist Tomio Koyama, I encountered a captivating work: a painting by Miryam Haddad.

Miryam Haddad is a young female artist born in 1991, originally from Syria, currently based in and working in Paris, France. Her represented gallery is the FrenchGalerie Art Concept.
For recent exhibitions, she held a solo show at Galerie Art Concept in 2018, and in 2019 she exhibited in a group show at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. In Japan, she was also included in the “Taguchi Art Collection: Palette of Spheres” exhibition held at the Sapporo Art Park Museum from November 19, 2019 to January 13, 2020.
The exhibition in “Nine Eyes — Nine Artists” was realized through a recommendation by collector Miwa Taguchi (of the Taguchi Collection). The reason she recommended Miryam Haddad was posted on a caption in the venue.

This time, only four small works of about size 1–2 were shown. All are new works painted in 2019.
Haddad’s works are said to be at one of two extremes—either small like the ones exhibited, or very large. I viewed them thinking how interesting it is that an artist puts out such small works to the Western market.
Even in the small works, many paint colors are used, and they cross between the figurative and the abstract. Thick, flat brushwork is central, but flat areas were also consciously placed here and there. The four works each seemed to maintain their own balance, and I felt a sense of unity. At a glance, there was a strong sense of “this is a Miryam Haddad.”
She also appears to have an exhibition history at Art Basel, such as Miami Beach in 2017 and Basel in 2019. It seems there will be chances to encounter her at art fairs going forward. I’d like to keep an eye on her.

이번에 출품된 것은 1〜2호 정도의 소품 4점뿐이었습니다. 모두 2019년에 그려진 신작입니다.
미리암 하다드의 작품은 전시 작품 같은 작은 것이거나, 매우 큰 작품이거나 둘 중 하나의 양극단이라고 합니다. 서구 마켓을 상대로 이 정도의 소품을 내놓는 작가도 흥미롭다…고 생각하며 감상했습니다.
소품이라도 사용된 물감의 색은 많아서, 구상과 추상 사이를 교차하는 듯한 작품입니다. 두툼한 필치가 중심이지만, 곳곳에 플랫한 부분도 의식적으로 배치되어 있었습니다. 또한 4작품은 각각의 작품에 밸런스가 유지되고 있는 듯하여 통일감을 느꼈습니다. 한눈에 미리암 하다드의 작품이라는 이미지의 강렬함이 있었습니다.
2017년의 Miami Beach, 2019년의 Basel 등 아트 바젤에도 출품 이력이 있는 듯합니다. 앞으로도 아트 페어에서 만날 기회가 있을 것 같습니다. 주목해 가고 싶습니다.
