I viewed Kanji Yumisashi’s work at Aichi Triennale 2019.
The venue is “Maison Nagono 808” in the Endoji Honmachi shopping street, in the Shikemichi and Endoji area.
Kanji Yumisashi is a visual artist who, following the tragedy of his mother’s suicide, has been presenting paintings that offer requiems to the deceased and diverse perspectives centered on those who have passed away.
Kanji Yumisashi, “Shining Children”
While the Aichi Triennale 2019 has been drawing attention for sensationalist reasons, it’s a great pity that news of works that truly move the heart — like Kanji Yumisashi’s “Shining Children” — has been overshadowed. This exhibition is an art project built on Kanji Yumisashi’s careful reporting and craft, with the children who lost their lives in a traffic accident at its center.

The exhibition takes as its theme the incident on April 18, 2011 in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, in which a crane truck plowed into a line of children on their way to school, killing six.
A distinctive feature of the approach is that Yumisashi interviewed not only the victims but also the parents of both the victims and the perpetrator. Through the works, he conveys the tragedy of traffic accidents to viewers, embedding a message that also raises awareness of our own traffic manners.
The victims in the published works are shown by their real names (already reported in the press, not only in this exhibition)
Kanji Yumisashi’s works use bright colors, and never project the tragedy of the accident onto the work in a direct way.

On the other hand, pieces that touch directly on the accident are accompanied by written text — messages and background on the reporting — revealing the words and thoughts of everyone involved.

I felt the weight of how many people’s lives and feelings can be intertwined by a single traffic accident.
The intent behind Kanji Yumisashi’s works and their expression came across so clearly, and it became an opportunity to seriously reflect on that meaning.
A wonderful exhibition. I felt the power of art.

아이치 트리엔날레 2019에서 Kanji Yumisashi의 작품을 감상했다.
회장은 시켄미치・엔도지 지역의 엔도지혼마치 상점가 안에 있는 「Maison Nagono 808」이다.
Kanji Yumisashi는 어머니가 자살로 세상을 떠난 불행을 계기로, 죽은 이에 대한 진혼과 세상을 떠난 사람을 중심으로 다양한 시각을 제시하는 회화 작품을 발표해 온 미술 작가이다.
Kanji Yumisashi “Shining Children (빛나는 아이들)”
아이치 트리엔날레 2019는 센세이셔널한 방향으로 화제가 되고 있지만, Kanji Yumisashi의 이번 전시 「Shining Children」처럼 마음을 크게 흔드는 작품에 대한 정보가 전면에 나오지 않는 것이 매우 안타깝게 느껴진다. 본 전시는 교통사고로 희생된 아이들을 중심에 둔, Kanji Yumisashi의 세심한 취재와 작품에 의한 아트 프로젝트이다.

본 전시는 2011년 4월 18일 도치기현 가누마 시에서 일어난, 등교 중이던 아동 대열에 크레인 트럭이 돌진해 6명의 아동이 사망한 사건을 주제로 하고 있다.
특징적인 접근은, 피해자뿐만 아니라 피해자와 가해자 양쪽 부모에게 각각 취재해 그린다는 점이다. 전시 작품을 통해 교통사고의 비극을 관람자에게 전하며, 우리의 교통 매너를 일깨우는 메시지도 담고 있다.

Kanji Yumisashi의 작품은 색채가 밝고, 사고의 비극을 직접적으로 작품에 투영하지는 않는다.
전시 풍경
한편, 사고에 직접적으로 관련된 부분에 대해서는 메시지나 취재의 경위 등이 문장으로 소개되어, 관련된 사람들의 말과 심정이 드러난다.
실제 오간 편지의 전시아이의 성장을 그리는 부모의 시선으로 그려진 작품희생된 아이들의 초상화일상 생활을 그린 작품이 우리에게 질문을 던진다.자동차를 중심으로 한 일상의 풍경화가해자 부모의 코멘트도 있었다.전시실 후반부에는 노렌처럼 매달린 작품들 사이를 헤치고 출구까지 나아가야 한다. ※천장 부근에서 촬영캔버스 작품을 젖히면서 앞으로 나아가게 된다.Kanji Yumisashi의 메시지도 게시되어 있었다잇달아 눈앞을 가로막는 캔버스는 마치 자동차에 부딪히는 듯한 유사 체험으로 이어졌다.
하나의 교통사고로 인해 얼마나 많은 사람들의 인생과 생각들이 얽히는지, 그 무게를 실감했다.
Kanji Yumisashi의 작품이 표현하는 것과 전시 의도가 명확하게 이쪽으로 전해져, 그 의미를 진지하게 생각하는 기회가 되었다.
훌륭한 전시 작품이다. 아트의 힘을 느꼈다.
