The second edition of “Reborn-Art Festival 2019 (RAF2019),” a festival staged on the Oshika Peninsula and central Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture. More than just an art festival, it is a celebration where visitors can also enjoy music and food.
RAF2019 is spread across seven areas.
One of them is the “Ajishima Area.”
Making its debut this time, Ajishima is a small island 15 minutes by boat from the Oshika Peninsula, with a population of about 400 and a circumference of 20 kilometers.
This island, with its untouched majestic nature and mild, southern-style atmosphere, has been called “the Hawaii of the Tohoku region.”

The curators of the Ajishima Area are Etsuko Watari and Koichi Watari, and the theme is “Next Utopia.”
The island, floating southwest of the Oshika Peninsula, has two beaches: Amiji on the north side and Watanoha on the south side.
Due to its mild climate influenced by the Kuroshio Current, subtropical plants grow in clusters here, and it is also popular as a resort destination.
Ajishima Shirahama Beach, boasting one of the highest transparencies in the Tohoku region, bustles with many bathers every summer. Boats depart from Ishinomaki or Ayukawa.
Atsuko Mochida
Atsuko Mochida is an artist known for inserting temporary and strikingly out-of-place elements such as walls and staircases into existing spaces and buildings, transforming the meaning and quality of the space.
Recently, her work “Rotation of T House” won the Seiichi Saito Prize at the CAF Award 2018, and she has been attracting growing attention.

Ajishima has many abandoned houses that lost their owners due to depopulation and the earthquake disaster. Regarding them as “houses floating in mid-air,” she actually levitated one of them. The idea of making a house float is fascinating, and it is astonishing that she actually brought it to life.

The problem of abandoned houses with unknown owners will surely continue to grow, even in major cities near Tokyo.

Reborn-Art Festival 2019
本届是第二次举办、以宫城县牡鹿半岛与石卷市街地为舞台的祭典”Reborn-Art Festival 2019 (RAF2019)”。它不仅是艺术节，也是可以享受音乐与美食的庆典。
이번이 두 번째 개최인, 미야기현 오시카(Oshika) 반도와 이시노마키 시가지를 무대로 하는 축제 “Reborn-Art Festival 2019 (RAF2019)”. 단순한 아트 페스티벌에 그치지 않고, 음악과 음식도 즐길 수 있는 축제입니다.
RAF2019는 7개 지역으로 나뉘어 전개됩니다.
그중 하나가 “아지시마(Ajishima) 지역”입니다.
이번에 처음 등장하는 아지시마는 오시카 반도에서 배로 15분, 인구 약 400명, 둘레 20km의 작은 섬입니다.
이 섬은 손대지 않은 웅대한 자연과 남방계의 온화한 분위기에서 도호쿠의 하와이라 불려 왔습니다.

아지시마 지역의 큐레이터는 Etsuko Watari와 Koichi Watari 부부로, 주제는 “Next Utopia”입니다.
오시카 반도 남서쪽 앞바다에 떠 있는 이 섬에는 북쪽의 아미지와 남쪽의 와타노하 두 해변이 있습니다.
쿠로시오 해류의 영향으로 온난한 기후 덕분에 난대성 식물이 군생하며 리조트지로도 인기입니다.
도호쿠 유수의 투명도를 자랑하는 아지시마 시라하마 해수욕장은 여름마다 많은 해수욕객으로 붐빕니다. 이시노마키 또는 아유카와에서 배로 건너갑니다.
Atsuko Mochida
Atsuko Mochida는 기존 공간이나 건물에 벽면이나 계단 등 임시성과 이물감이 강한 요소를 삽입하여 공간의 의미와 질을 변모시키는 것에 능한 아티스트입니다.
최근에는 《Rotation of T House》가 CAF Award 2018에서 Seiichi Saito 상을 수상하며 주목받고 있는 작가입니다.

아지시마에는 인구 감소와 지진 재해로 인해 주인을 잃은 빈집이 많은데, 이를 “공중에 뜬 집”으로 여기고 그중 한 집을 실제로 띄웠습니다. 집을 띄운다는 발상이 흥미롭고, 이를 실제로 형상화한다는 것이 놀랍습니다.

“옛날 그곳에 살던 사람이나, 그 아이, 배우자, 여동생 등 누군가가 그 집을 물려받았을 것이지만, 그들이 그 집으로 돌아오는 일은 없다.
집은 공중에 떠 있다.

주인이 알 수 없는 빈집 문제는, 도쿄 근교의 대도시에서도 더욱 늘어갈 것입니다.
공중에 뜬 집은 우리 가까이에도 존재할지 모릅니다.
持ち主の分からない空き家問題は、東京近郊の大都市でもますます増えていくことでしょう。
