What gave me a big shock from the standpoint of protecting works was the moment I saw a stain on a print.
For me, it was a major incident.
An artwork, even if you buy it, is something you’re “holding in trust from the artist” and are meant to pass on to the next generation—so I felt I had done something terrible.
Ever since that incident, when framing works I own, I’ve been conscious of “work protection” with the same priority as appearance.
Amid such timing, one storage form that came up when I consulted my regular framing shop was a storage method using a “storage box.”
A so-called acid-free, non-acidic storage box. One of the storage boxes—various sizes are available, but many are thin.
The storage box is one of the storage forms widely used at museums and the like.
What you put inside varies—from a single photograph to photo books you want to keep from fading. It’s said to be often used for single-sheet artworks such as photographs.

What’s sold is at most about 5 cm thick, but it’s not meant to hold many works.
The reason is that putting in a large quantity can put load on the works underneath or damage them when taking them out.
It’s made of cardboard, but it has decent strength and gives a sense of security.
The opening is wide too, so you should be able to take precious photos and artworks in and out without stress.

At large home-electronics stores, they’re sold in the camera corner. If you ask a clerk, they should tell you right away.
Since it’s assembled, you carry it home in a flat state.
Because of the large size, I was a little careful on the way home after buying it.
The store I visited carried products from about two or three makers.
They didn’t have it in the storefront, but a sculpture I bought before was delivered stored in a storage box.
Since the prices aren’t cheap, a gallery that stores works in such boxes gains more trust (roid works gallery).
This came as the storage box for a sculpture I purchased before.
There are examples of use for three-dimensional works, but the works that best suit the storage box’s characteristics are probably works using paper.
I also store print works and the like in mine.
It varies by size, but many can be obtained in the price range of a few thousand yen.
After buying it, I gained a sense of security that I’m protecting the works I own, and a stress-free feeling.

작품 보호의 관점에서 필자가 크게 충격을 받은 것은 판화의 얼룩을 본 순간부터입니다.

그런 타이밍 속에서, 단골 액자점에 상담해 나온 보존 형태의 하나가 「스토리지 박스」를 사용한 보관 방법입니다.
이른바 애시드 프리(Acid Free), 무산성 보존 상자입니다. 스토리지 박스의 하나〜다양한 사이즈가 준비되어 있지만, 박형이 많습니다.
스토리지 박스는 미술관 등에서도 많이 쓰이는 보존 형태의 하나라고 합니다.
사진 한 장부터 변색을 피하고 싶은 사진집 등, 안에 넣는 것은 다양할 것입니다. 사진 등 한 장짜리 미술 작품에 많이 사용된다고 합니다.

판매되는 것은 두꺼워도 5cm 정도이지만, 많은 작품을 넣는 것을 상정하고 있지는 않습니다.
많은 양을 넣으면 아래 작품에 하중이 걸리거나 꺼낼 때 손상될 가능성이 있는 것이 이유라고 합니다.
골판지로 만들어졌지만 강도도 그런대로 있어 안심감이 있습니다.
꺼내는 입구도 넓어, 소중한 사진이나 아트 작품을 스트레스 없이 넣고 뺄 수 있을 것입니다.

대형 가전 양판점에서는 카메라 코너에서 판매되고 있습니다. 점원에게 물으면 바로 알려 줄 것입니다.
조립식이라 얇은 상태로 가지고 돌아가게 됩니다.
사이즈가 큰 탓도 있어, 구입 후 돌아가는 길에는 조금 신경이 쓰였습니다.
찾아간 양판점에서는 2〜3개사 정도의 메이커 상품을 취급하고 있었습니다.
매장에는 놓여 있지 않았지만, 이전에 구입한 조각 작품의 납품은 스토리지 박스에 담겨 받았습니다.
싸지 않은 가격이므로, 이런 상자에 담아 주는 갤러리에는 신뢰감이 더해지네요(roid works gallery).
이전에 구입한 조각 작품의 보존 상자로 딸려 온 것입니다.
입체 작품에서의 사용 예도 있지만, 스토리지 박스의 특성이 살아나는 궁합 좋은 작품은 종이를 사용한 작품일 것입니다.
필자는 그 밖에 판화 작품 등을 수납하고 있습니다.
사이즈에 따라 변동하지만, 대부분 수천 엔대의 가격으로 입수 가능합니다.
구입 후, 필자는 소유한 작품을 지키고 있다는 안심감이 생겨, 스트레스 프리한 감각을 얻을 수 있었습니다.
