At the Matsuzakaya Museum in Nagoya, the final venue of the touring exhibition, I saw “THE Doraemon Exhibition NAGOYA 2018.”
After the Tokyo exhibition and the Takaoka exhibition in Toyama, it was held at the final venue, Nagoya.
It’s a full-volume exhibition composed under the work theme “Please make your own Doraemon,”by 28 groups of Japan’s representative artists.
Yoshitomo Nara, who presented the work 《Dorami-chan Whose Ribbon Was Taken by Gian》 at the previous “THE Doraemon Exhibition” (held from 2002), also exhibited many works this time.
《Dorami-chan Whose Ribbon Was Taken by Gian》, exhibited again following the previous timeDetail—the eyes quietly face forward. This time’s new work 《Dorami-chan Still with Her Ribbon Taken by Gian @Midnight》Detail—there are tears in the eyes…Various Dorami-chans are drawn in his signature drawings.A Dorami-chan with a ribbon too.
The three-dimensional work is also Dorami-chan.
《The Midnight Cat-Type Robot — Dorami-chan Still with Her Ribbon Taken by Gian》. Covered in scratches…
For Nara, Doraemon is “Dorami-chan.”
She gives the impression of a character with few chances to appear in either the anime or manga, but seeing various expressions, it felt like watching a “new Doraemon.”
This makes you wonder what kind of work he’ll show at the next Doraemon exhibition… but how many years from now will we get to see it? Something to look forward to!
