An interesting project—an exhibition of print works by three renowned wood sculptors. The exhibition is titled “When We Change Our Perspective,” held at Kido Press, a gallery specializing in prints.
Katsura Funakoshi, Atsuhiko Misawa, and Taku Obata—three wood sculptors of different generations, all graduates of the Tokyo University of the Arts Sculpture Department—come together in this project.
Katsura Funakoshi
The most senior artist is the master Katsura Funakoshi. The works give the impression of drawings made before creating wood sculptures. You feel a sense of gravity.
Atsuhiko Misawa
Atsuhiko Misawa, whose exhibition at the Yokosuka Museum of Art is fresh in memory.
Charming works that look as if Misawa’s sculptures had been transferred directly into prints.
It looks like a design drawing for a wood sculpture.
Taku Obata
Taku Obata, known as a B-BOY. The works centered on 2016. He uses silver aluminum paper to bring out a metallic feel. The same works as at the collector exhibition I visited the other day were displayed and sold here (sold out during the run).
B-BOY Abstract 2
I was also able to see works beyond those on display. The works I thought “Nice!” were already sold out. A pity…

As with the three-dimensional works, the flat works overflow with each artist’s individuality—wonderful! Three worlds in three styles gathered together, and I was able to enjoy them.
