The author, Daisuke Miyatsu, is an art collector who, while working as a typical salaryman at a company, has purchased 300 pieces of contemporary art over 15 years.
Miyatsu’s love for art has even led him to commission a French artist to design his home. He says the appeal of buying contemporary art is “interaction with artists.”
Being able to talk with artists living in the same era is an important essence in enjoying artworks, I felt while reading through this book. By purchasing works, we can also support the activities of the artists themselves, and I sense that the breadth and world of enjoying art expands greatly.
Additionally, in this book, episodes of collecting historical works by Yayoi Kusama, who is synonymous with Daisuke Miyatsu, are described vividly, making the reader nervous with the sense of immediacy. The sense of familiarity from being an ordinary salaryman rather than a billionaire like Yusaku Maezawa, who won a Basquiat at 12.3 billion yen, creates the interest as a factual record.
