I visited a solo exhibition by Wolfgang Tillmans.
The venue is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

This exhibition is a large-scale solo show by Tillmans, presenting a substantial volume of works.
The motifs, sizes, and modes of display of the works vary widely. It makes you realize the breadth of photography as a medium.
The exhibition was composed of a wide range of motifs, from private portraits to abstract works.
The breadth of Tillmans’s work blurs the boundaries between themes, allowing viewers themselves to draw their own connections and leading to a uniquely personal viewing experience. His practice also engages deeply with social themes such as war, sexuality, and environmental issues. There is a directness and intimacy that challenges the viewer to confront these questions on a personal level.
The display methods varied. Some works were framed, but many, especially the large-scale pieces, were hung with clips.
The installation-based approach to display was also fascinating to view.
It felt as if the diverse display methods were designed to draw out thought and dialogue.
It was an exhibition that strongly conveyed the possibilities of photography.

이번 전시는 Tillmans의 대규모 개인전으로, 작품 수도 상당한 볼륨을 자랑합니다.
작품의 모티프와 크기, 전시 방식도 매우 다양합니다. 사진 작품의 폭넓은 가능성을 새삼 깨닫게 됩니다.
사적인 초상에서 추상적인 작품에 이르기까지 다양한 모티프로 구성되어 있었습니다.
Tillmans 작품의 넓은 스펙트럼은 주제 간의 경계를 모호하게 하고, 관람자 스스로가 저마다의 연결점을 발견하며 고유의 감상 체험으로 이어지게 합니다. 또한 전쟁, 성애, 환경 문제 등 사회적 주제와도 깊이 관련되어 있습니다. 이러한 문제에 대해 개인적인 방식으로 마주하도록 관람자에게 도전하는 직접성과 친밀감을 지니고 있습니다.
전시 방식도 다양했습니다. 액자에 담긴 작품도 있었지만, 대형 작품을 중심으로 클립으로 매단 작품이 많이 보였습니다.
인스톨레이션적인 전시 방식도 흥미롭게 감상할 수 있었습니다.
다양한 전시 방식을 활용해, 사유와 대화를 이끌어내도록 설계된 듯한 인상을 받았습니다.
