The artist “Atsushi Kaga,” who is 40 years old. Hearing that he was holding his first solo exhibition in Japan, I visited MAHO KUBOTA GALLERY.
Three-dimensional works
Passing through the gallery entrance, the first things to catch your eye are three-dimensional works. Cute little figures are displayed. They have many adorable faces that are somehow comical yet also feel poignant.
Flat works
According to what the gallery staff told me, the humans and animals appearing in the works have unique characters set for them.
The rabbit is set as the artist himself, they said. Viewing while carefully reading the text written on the works, you’ll feel an indescribable flavor.
Print works
I was specially allowed to see print works too. It’s storybook-like content in which various stories unfold.
What are the work prices?
He’s an international artist, and his prices were set higher than I imagined. Even the smallest size is ¥210,000 (excl. tax). Large works were about ¥1.5 million.
There are apparently many works that can’t all be displayed, so I also felt like seeing them all together in an art book or something.

Summary
Messages that slowly sink in, appropriately black material that makes you chuckle, cute characters, deep and beautiful coloring… they were very highly finished works.
However, since the prices are set high, in the end I headed home without buying… But I still want one. I’ll agonize for a while.
