ゲルハルト・リヒター展　東京国立近代美術館

現代アートの巨匠、ゲルハルト・リヒター（1932年ドイツ生まれ）。
日本の美術館での個展は、2005-2006年にかけて金沢21世紀美術館・DIC川村記念美術館で開催されて以来、実に16年ぶり。
また東京の美術館での大規模な個展は今回が初めてとなります。

リヒターは油彩画、写真、デジタルプリント、ガラス、鏡など多岐にわたる素材を用い、具象表現と抽象表現を行き来しながら、人がものを見て認識するということについて取り組み続けてきました。本展では、財団コレクションおよび本人所蔵作品を中心に、最新作のドローイングを含む貴重な作品約110点もの多様な作品を通じて、2022年に90歳を迎えたリヒターの、60年におよぶ画業をたどります。

《ビルケナウ》

幅2メートル、高さ2.6メートルの作品4点で構成される巨大な抽象画《ビルケナウ》は、ホロコーストを主題としており、近年の重要作品とみなされています。出品作品のなかでも最大級の絵画作品である本作が、この度、日本で初めて公開されました。

アブストラクト・ペインティング

抽象画は小作品から大作まで、たくさん展示されていました。
個人的にはこのシリーズが一番好きです。

フォト・ペインティング

新聞や雑誌の写真、家族の写真などをキャンバスに描いた「フォト・ペインティング」シリーズ。
近づいてみると筆致が見て取れる油絵作品です。

左右の展示で額装を変えておりました。

多様な作品がコンパクトに展示されていて、リヒターの作品の全体像を味わえる展覧会でした。
密度がとても濃く、鑑賞体験としては濃度の濃いものになりました。

巡回展として、豊田市美術館での展示も決まっています。
空間の広い豊田市美で改めて見てみたいと思いました。

Gerhard Richter at The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo

Gerhard Richter (b. 1932, Germany), one of the giants of contemporary art.
This is his first solo museum exhibition in Japan in a full sixteen years, since the 2005-2006 shows at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art.
It is also his first large-scale solo museum exhibition in Tokyo.

Working across a wide range of materials — oil painting, photography, digital prints, glass, and mirrors — and moving freely between figuration and abstraction, Richter has continually engaged with the question of what it means for a person to see and recognize things. Drawing largely from the Gerhard Richter Art Foundation collection and the artist’s own holdings, and including his most recent drawings, this exhibition traces Richter’s sixty-year career through around 110 significant works, marking the year in which he turns ninety.

Birkenau

Birkenau, a monumental abstract painting composed of four canvases each 2 meters wide and 2.6 meters tall, addresses the Holocaust and is regarded as one of Richter’s key recent works. Among the largest paintings in the exhibition, it is being shown in Japan for the first time.

Abstract Painting

Abstract paintings, from small works to large-scale pieces, were on view in abundance.
Personally, this is my favorite series.

Photo Painting

The “Photo Painting” series, in which Richter renders newspaper and magazine photographs — as well as family photos — on canvas.
Move closer, and you can clearly see the brushwork of these oil paintings.

Drawings

On the left and right, the drawings were shown with different framing.

Diverse bodies of work were installed compactly, offering a full sweep of Richter’s practice in a single show.
The density was extremely high, and the experience of viewing was, correspondingly, very rich.

The exhibition will travel to Toyota Municipal Museum of Art.
I would love to see it again in Toyota’s more expansive galleries.

当代艺术巨匠Gerhard Richter（1932年生于德国）。
自2005至2006年间在21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa与DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art举办以来，此次是时隔整整16年再次于日本美术馆举办的个展。
同时，这也是他在东京美术馆首次举办的大型个展。

Richter运用油画、摄影、数码打印、玻璃、镜面等多种素材，游走于具象表现与抽象表现之间，长期致力于探讨人如何观看并认识事物这一课题。本展以Gerhard Richter Art Foundation藏品及本人所藏作品为中心，通过包括最新素描在内约110件珍贵而多样的作品，回溯2022年迎来90岁的Richter长达60年的绘画生涯。
