I visited the solo exhibition “The Absence of Mark Manders” by Mark Manders. The venue is the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (Kiyosumi-shirakawa).
Mark Manders “The Absence of Mark Manders”
Mark Manders was born in 1968 in Volkel, the Netherlands, and is currently based in Ronse, Belgium.
“I think that objects are what can capture the strongest moment.
Amid infectious diseases, wars, changing seasons — in a world that keeps shifting, objects remain in their original state.
That, I believe, is the true reason I love art.
Even if the way we look at a work is different today than it was 200 years ago, the work itself has not changed.
The fact that an object remains the same is deeply beautiful.
It is a kind of magic made by humans, and it is extremely important that humanity can create and think about such things.
By making things, we can share time and find common ground.
In Egyptian and Greek sculpture there is a stylised, frozen kind of time —
a time different from Roman sculpture, which seems to arrest motion.”

Mark Manders “The Absence of Mark Manders”
Mark Manders의 개인전 “The Absence of Mark Manders”에 다녀왔습니다.
Mark Manders “The Absence of Mark Manders”
Mark Manders
