I visited Koichiro Tada’s solo exhibition “Hello Hello.”
The venue is TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY.
This is his first solo exhibition at the gallery since the end of July 2018.
This exhibition presents new works that were scheduled to be shown at Art Fair Tokyo 2020, which was cancelled.

This exhibition is composed entirely of portrait works of women (girls) with expressionless faces — a subject the artist has continued to depict.
Koichiro Tada, About “You”
All the works are titled About “You.” The exhibited pieces, varying slightly in size, feature what appear to be similar faces at first glance, but on closer inspection you notice subtle variations in hairstyles, eyes, mouths, and use of color.

The portraits of women arranged in all four directions offer an unparalleled viewing experience, evoking a space like the Rothko Room at the DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art.

Looking closely at the paint surface, it feels flat yet has depth. It seems very thinly painted, yet you can sense many colors layered underneath. The high level of finish is as always.

In a partitioned space at the back of the gallery, blue works were also on display.
