I visited the Yokohama Museum of Art’s 30th-anniversary collection exhibition “Meet the Collection — Art, People and the Museum.”

At the open space by the entrance, a work created by Yusuke Asai together with children and others greets the visitor.

This anniversary exhibition is structured around four guest artists.
Below, I would like to recap the show centering on the works of those four artists.
Tabaimo
Tabaimo held a large-scale solo exhibition at the Yokohama Museum of Art on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
This time as well, she delighted the audience with her signature video installations.
The video work “Aitaiseijosei” is a video installation that overlays “Villain” — a newspaper serial novel by Shuichi Yoshida for which Tabaimo provided her first newspaper-serial illustrations — with Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s “The Love Suicides at Sonezaki.”
In the room of Miho Kaneko, one of the characters in “Villain,” Ohatsu and Tokubei from “The Love Suicides at Sonezaki” are depicted. The screen onto which the video is projected merges with real chairs, creating Tabaimo’s mysterious world.

Other pieces related to Tabaimo’s video works were also on display, and I got the impression that many of the works depicted women.

Yusuke Asai
The artist who drew the most attention at this exhibition was surely Yusuke Asai.
Not only the collaboratively created piece at the entrance, but the astonishing large-scale work “The Tree of Life,” produced in just ten days, must have been the single work that captured viewers’ attention the most.

The earth was collected in Yokohama as well.Other works from the collection were displayed on top of Asai’s mural.Non-mural works were also exhibited.Because it was a stand-alone space with a very high ceiling, it felt like viewing a large cave painting.Works selected on the theme of the workings of life were on display.The names of many collaborators were credited among the production staff.If you look closely, you can see tulips that appear to have been painted by Atsuko Yamashita, one of the production collaborators.A signature was also drawn. I want this door.
A truly wonderful work. This exhibition must have won many new fans for Yusuke Asai.

Kei Imazu
Kei Imazu’s oil paintings also possessed a powerful presence with their sheer size.
The theme of the section centered on Kei Imazu is “Surrealism.”

It seems this large-scale work was sold thanks to this very exhibition. It would be interesting to know what kind of collector acquired it.

Kishio Suga
The presentation of Kishio Suga, one of the leading Mono-ha artists, was also striking.

30주년 기념전인 Yokohama Museum of Art의 소장품전 「Meet the Collection ―아트, 사람, 그리고 미술관」을 방문했습니다.

전시장 입구의 오픈 스페이스에는 Yusuke Asai와 아이들 등이 함께 제작한 작품이 관람객을 맞이합니다.
Yusuke Asai + 공동 제작 참가자 64명 《씨앗을 먹은 짐승（일명 우주 쿠키）》뒷면에도 꼼꼼히 그려진 작품이었습니다.
이번 기념전은 게스트 아티스트 4인을 중심으로 구성된 전시입니다.
아래에서는 이 4인의 작품을 중심으로 전시를 돌아보고자 합니다.
Tabaimo
Yokohama Museum of Art 20주년에 대규모 개인전을 개최했던 Tabaimo.
이번 전시에서도 그녀의 특기인 영상 인스톨레이션으로 관람객을 즐겁게 해 주었습니다.
영상 작품 《Aitaiseijosei》는 Tabaimo가 처음으로 신문 연재소설의 삽화를 담당했던 요시다 슈이치의 신문 연재소설 『악인』과 지카마쓰 몬자에몬의 『소네자키 신주』를 겹쳐 놓은 영상 인스톨레이션입니다.
『악인』의 등장인물 중 한 명인 가네코 미호의 방에 『소네자키 신주』의 오하쓰와 도쿠베가 표현되어 있습니다. 투사되는 스크린에는 현실의 의자가 겹쳐지며 Tabaimo 특유의 불가사의한 세계관이 만들어지고 있었습니다.

그 밖에도 Tabaimo의 영상 작품과 관련된 전시가 포함되어 있어, 여성을 그린 작품이 많다는 인상을 받았습니다.

Yusuke Asai
이번 전시에서 가장 주목을 모은 작가는 Yusuke Asai가 아닐까요?
입구에서 공동 제작한 작품도 그러하지만, 단 10일 만에 그려 낸 압도적인 대작 《생명의 나무》는 관람객의 시선을 가장 많이 사로잡은 작품이었을 것입니다.
《생명의 나무》 전시 풍경Yusuke Asai 《생명의 나무를 위한 드로잉》 2019년Asai는 흙을 사용한 진흙 드로잉으로 알려진 작가입니다. 이번 흙은 요코하마에서도 채집되었습니다.Asai의 벽화 위에는 다른 소장품 작품이 함께 전시되어 있었습니다.벽화가 아닌 작품도 전시되어 있었습니다.천장이 높은 독립 공간이라, 마치 커다란 동굴 벽화를 감상하는 듯한 느낌이었습니다.생명의 활동을 테마로 선정된 작품들이 전시되어 있습니다.제작 스태프에는 수많은 협력자의 이름이 크레딧되어 있었습니다.자세히 보면, 제작에 협력한 Atsuko Yamashita가 그린 것으로 보이는 튤립도 그려져 있네요.사인도 그려져 있었습니다. 이 문이 갖고 싶네요.
훌륭한 작품이었습니다. Yusuke Asai의 팬이 많이 늘어나는 전시가 되지 않았을까요.

Kei Imazu
Kei Imazu의 유채 작품도 크기 면에서 강한 존재감을 발했습니다.
Kei Imazu를 중심으로 한 전시 코너의 테마는 「초현실주의」입니다.

모노하의 대표 작가인 Kishio Suga의 전시도 인상적이었습니다.
