【個展】網代幸介「神さまたち」NADiff modern

「ゆるやかな砂丘を下っていくと、石が無造作に積まれた小屋がぽつんとあった。みやげ屋だった。軒先に敷かれた絨毯の上には奇妙な形をしたオブジェや皿などが雑然と並べられていた。中でも興味を惹かれたのは、動物が幾重にも重なってできた「ロロ」とよばれる神さまのオブジェだった。私がそれに興味をもったことが嬉しかったのか、店主はにんまり語り始めた。この地にはかつて2つの王国があった。1つはホラと呼ばれた国で、トトという王さまが支配していた。トトは17の若さで内乱を治め、やがて王の座についたが、平定してからは政はいっさい側近にまかせっきりで酒や女に溺れる日々を送った。王国はみるみる衰退していったが、トトはそれでも神さまの助言を聞こうとはせず、逆らう者はみな磔にした。怒ったロロは、天から嵐のような息を昼夜休むことなく王国に吹きつづけた。それから地には草一本生えなくなり、王国は砂漠の海に沈んでしまった。オブジェや皿はこの辺りの砂から出土されたものらしい。」

網代幸介

“As I descended a gentle sand dune, a small hut of casually stacked stones stood alone. It was a souvenir shop. On the carpet spread out at the entrance, oddly shaped objects and plates were jumbled together. What most caught my eye was a figure of a god called ‘Rolo’ — layer upon layer of animals piled on top of one another. Perhaps pleased that I had shown interest, the shopkeeper began to speak with a grin. Once, there were two kingdoms in this land. One was called Hora, ruled by a king named Toto. Toto quelled the civil war at the tender age of 17 and ascended the throne, but once the land was pacified he left affairs of state entirely to his retainers and spent his days drowning in drink and women. The kingdom declined by the day, but Toto still refused to listen to the counsel of the gods, and had all who defied him crucified. Enraged, Rolo sent a stormlike breath down from the heavens onto the kingdom, day and night without pause. From that time on, not a single blade of grass grew from the earth, and the kingdom sank beneath a sea of sand. The objects and plates were, it seems, unearthed from the sands of this land.”

“顺着缓缓延展的沙丘走下去，一座随意用石头堆砌而成的小屋孤零零地伫立着。那是一家土产店。铺在屋檐下的地毯上，杂乱地摆放着一些形状奇异的摆件与盘子。其中最让我感兴趣的，是一尊由动物层层叠叠堆砌而成、被称为”Rolo”的神明摆件。或许是因为我表现出兴趣让店主感到高兴，他便笑意盈盈地讲述了起来。这片土地上曾有两个王国。其中一个叫Hora，由一位名为Toto的国王统治。Toto在17岁的年少之际平定了内乱，随即登上王位，但天下平定之后他将政务尽数交给近臣，日日沉溺于酒色。王国迅速衰落，但Toto依然不肯听从神明的劝告，凡是违逆者皆被钉上十字架。愤怒的Rolo自天而降，昼夜不息地向王国吹送如暴风般的气息。此后，大地上再也无一草生长，王国终究沉没于沙漠之海。这些摆件与盘子，据说都是从这一带的沙中出土的。”

「완만한 모래 언덕을 내려가자, 무심하게 쌓아 올린 돌 오두막이 홀로 서 있었다. 기념품 가게였다. 처마 밑에 깔린 융단 위에는 기묘한 형상의 오브제와 접시들이 어지럽게 놓여 있었다. 그중에서도 흥미를 끈 것은, 여러 겹으로 겹쳐진 동물들로 이루어진 「Rolo」라 불리는 신의 오브제였다. 내가 그것에 흥미를 보인 것이 기뻤는지, 주인은 히죽 웃으며 이야기를 시작했다. 이 땅에는 예전에 두 왕국이 있었다. 하나는 Hora라 불리는 나라로, Toto라는 왕이 다스리고 있었다. Toto는 17세의 어린 나이에 내란을 평정하고 이윽고 왕좌에 올랐지만, 평정한 뒤에는 정치를 모두 측근에게 맡긴 채 술과 여자에 빠진 나날을 보냈다. 왕국은 눈에 띄게 쇠퇴해 갔지만, Toto는 그래도 신의 조언을 들으려 하지 않았고, 거스르는 자는 모두 십자가에 못박았다. 분노한 Rolo는 하늘로부터 폭풍과 같은 숨결을, 밤낮 쉬지 않고 왕국에 내리쬐었다. 그 후 대지에는 풀 한 포기 자라지 않게 되었고, 왕국은 사막의 바다에 가라앉아 버렸다. 오브제와 접시들은 이 부근의 모래에서 출토된 것이라 한다.」
