We visited sculptor Osamu Takada’s solo exhibition “Metal, Clay, and Osamu.” The venue is “MU Higashi-Shinsaibashi Gallery,” a gallery in Shinsaibashi, Osaka.

Osamu Takada apparently loves himself. His self-produced art book is packed with self-portraits — selfies, purikura print-club photos, and even his driver’s license — with plenty of exposure of his own face alongside the work photos.
The exhibited works are titled “Osamu Human,” with a percentage notation according to size.
Based on his own height of 174cm, a work 33cm tall is titled “Osamu Human 19%,” with the ratio built into each title.

The works use stainless steel as a skeleton and build the body from small parts of ceramic and porcelain.
For each body part, about ten pieces are fired in the kiln, and they are assembled like a puzzle.
In some places the parts don’t fit perfectly, but the imperfect state is human, and that’s OK.

Osamu Takada is fond of TV hero shows and said he “wanted to make something like Goranger” — this series is the result. He mentioned he began working on them about a year ago.

Osamu Takada has a solo exhibition in Tokyo coming up in the autumn as well. He told us it will be a completely different set of works. We’re looking forward to that one, too!

Osamu Takada는 자기 자신을 무척 좋아한다고 합니다. 자체 제작한 화집에도 셀카나 스티커 사진, 운전면허증 등, 작품 사진 외에도 얼굴 노출이 가득합니다.
이번 전시의 출품 작품 제목도 “오사무 인간”이라 이름 붙여져 있고, 작품의 크기에 따라 “% 표기”가 되어 있습니다.
자신의 키 174cm를 기준으로, 높이 33cm의 작품은 “오사무 인간 19%”라는 식으로 축척도에 따라 제목이 붙어 있습니다.

스테인리스를 골격으로 하여, 몸체를 도자기나 자기의 작은 부품으로 구성한 작품입니다.
각 부품은 한 부위당 약 10개씩 가마에서 구워, 퍼즐처럼 조립해 나간다고 합니다.
간혹 맞물리지 않은 부분도 보이지만, 불완전한 상태 그 자체가 인간적이어서 괜찮다는 것입니다.

Osamu Takada는 TV의 히어로 프로그램을 좋아해서 “고레인저 같은 작품을 만들고 싶었다”고 하여 완성한 시리즈입니다. 약 1년 전부터 만들기 시작했다고 합니다.
