Akira Ishiguro: Considerations on the Anthropocene through the Marbleesque: II
We visited Akira Ishiguro’s solo exhibition. The venue is Radi-um von Roentgenwerke in Asakusabashi.
In the largest work, the paint intersects in marble-like patterns, and the subtle texture of its matière makes for a compelling piece.
The delight of the layered surfaces is exceptional.
The refined finish underpinned by technique, and the depth that goes beyond a word like “beautiful,” are truly worth noting.
Fifteen small works
Akira Ishiguro’s technical prowess may be most easily explained by looking at this work.
It is a work that meticulously renders the surface of marble. The finish is so smooth that it is indistinguishable from real stone.
The pieces are painted on canvas with acrylic paint and then sanded to bring out the texture.
The quality is simply astonishing.
The next small-work series consists of intermediate pieces newly produced to bridge the marble-pattern works and the marble-surface works, presented as three-piece sets. Five variations of these three-work sets were produced and installed in a grid-like arrangement.
The lineup, from the works at the bottom to those at the top, is said to express the passage of time.

The thickness of the canvases themselves also seems to express something material.
The quality of the works was truly surprising.

겹겹이 쌓인 레이어의 즐거움은 발군입니다.
테크닉으로 뒷받침된 작품의 완성도, “아름답다”라는 표현만으로는 다 설명할 수 없는 깊이가 있습니다.

대리석의 표면을 정교하게 표현한 작품입니다. 표면이 매끄럽기 그지없어 진짜 돌과 다를 바가 없습니다.
캔버스에 아크릴 물감으로 그린 뒤 사포로 갈아 내어 질감을 표현했다고 합니다.
어쨌든 퀄리티가 대단합니다.
마블 작품과 대리석 작품을 이어 주는 중간적 작품을 새로이 제작하여 3점 세트로 표현한 것이 다음 소품 시리즈입니다. 3작품 1세트를 5종류 제작하여 격자 모양처럼 나란히 전시한 것입니다.
가장 아래의 작품에서 위쪽의 작품까지, 시간의 흐름을 표현한 배치라고 합니다.
