Aware of a male-dominated art history, she takes on the challenge of weaving her own experiences and perspectives into her paintings.

As seen in Gleaner Odalisque, a figure modeled on a broom — a symbol of the housework traditionally performed by women — appears in her work, in an approach that cynically depicts a male-dominated society.
In Disney’s Fantasia, the broom also appears as a character that rebels against the sorcerer.
“When you were about to be dominated by someone, it was this humble object of low status that was able to wield real power,” she says.

This is her first solo exhibition in Japan.
Viewing the works with gender and sexuality in mind, the colors woven into them seemed to rise to the surface, and the intent of each piece became strikingly clear.

《Gleaner Odalisque》에서도 볼 수 있듯이, 여성이 도맡아 온 가사노동의 상징인 “빗자루”를 모티프로 한 인물이 등장하며, 남성 우위의 사회를 냉소적으로 그려내는 접근을 취합니다.
디즈니 작품 《판타지아》에서 빗자루는 마법사에게 반역하는 캐릭터로 등장하기도 합니다.
“누군가에게 지배당하려 할 때 진정한 힘을 발휘한 것은, 바로 이 신분 낮은 도구였다”고 그녀는 말합니다.
