“Haiiro Ookami” deals in antique tools, while “Florist Nishibeppu Shoten” handles plants. Both are run by men in their thirties, so their collaboration might best be described as the activity of a two-person unit.

The shop’s name comes from the Russian folktale “Prince Ivan and the Gray Wolf.”
In addition to sourcing antique tools rooted in everyday life in Russia and Japan, he also designs houses and interiors.
Hisayuki Nishibeppu
Owner of Florist Nishibeppu Shoten.
He began sharing a space with Sato through an exhibition at “Haiiro Ookami.”
Using tree roots, mushrooms, weathered wood, and other natural materials, he expresses a distinctive worldview, and also works on flower arrangements and spatial displays.

The gallery “Mizusai” has a very spacious interior, divided into an exhibition corner and a permanent-sales corner.
The works on view in the exhibition corner centered on plants glowing softly within old three-dimensional frames illuminated from inside, casting a faint light within the dimly lit gallery.
The internal lighting is provided by battery-powered LED lights, which can be switched ON/OFF.
These illuminated works bring Takeshi Uchibayashi to mind.
Plants are enclosed within, and the retro frames of old wood help lend a soft glow to the pieces.
Inside the three-dimensional frames are works made of dried flowers and other plant materials.
Plant works so distinctly of Florist Nishibeppu Shoten — beautiful and lovely.
Permanent Corner
The permanent corner features a lineup that reflects “Mizusai’s” ceramic-focused character.

Kuramae has been seeing more and more stylish shops open, and this gallery gives the impression of blending naturally into the neighborhood’s trends from the start.
Rather than aligning itself with the context of contemporary art, it feels as if the gallery drew its blueprint from the atmosphere of the neighborhood itself.
The exhibition schedule for the rest of the year is already largely planned, and one senses an eager commitment to running solo shows energetically.
We will keep watching over, and cheering on, this gallery run by two women, with great expectations for its future.

“Haiiro Ookami”는 옛 도구를, “꽃집 Nishibeppu Shoten”은 식물을 다루지만, 두 사람 모두 30대 남성 작가이기에, 이 둘의 활동은 어쩌면 유닛적인 활동이라고도 말할 수 있을 것이다.

러시아와 일본의 생활에 뿌리내린 옛 도구를 매입하는 한편, 주택 및 인테리어 설계도 진행한다.

나무 뿌리와 버섯, 고목 등을 사용해 독자적인 세계관을 표현하며, 플라워 인스톨레이션과 공간 디스플레이 등도 다룬다.

갤러리 “Mizusai”의 실내는 매우 넓고, 기획전 코너와 상설 판매 코너로 나뉘어 있다.
기획전 코너에 전시된 작품들은, 오래된 입체 액자 안에 내부 조명으로 은은하게 빛나는 식물 작품을 중심으로 하며, 어둑하게 조명을 낮춘 갤러리 안에 은은한 불빛이 밝혀져 있었다.
내부 조명은 건전지로 켜지는 LED 라이트로, 스위치를 통해 ON/OFF 전환이 가능하다
Takeshi Uchibayashi를 떠올리게 하는 조명이 달린 작품이다.
식물이 함께 담기고, 레트로한 액자 목재의 분위기까지 더해져 부드러운 빛을 뿜어내고 있었다.
입체 액자 안에 자리한 것은, 드라이플라워 등 식물을 소재로 한 작품이다.

상설 코너
상설 코너는 도자를 중심으로 다루는 “Mizusai”다운 라인업이다.

구라마에에는 세련된 가게들이 점점 늘어가고 있는데, 이 갤러리는 그러한 동네의 트렌드에 자연스럽게 녹아드는 형태로 출발한 인상이다.
현대미술의 맥락에 스스로를 맞추기보다는, 오히려 거리의 분위기에서 설계도를 그린 듯한 인상을 받았다.
연내 기획전 스케줄도 대체로 짜여 있어, 개인전 개최를 정력적으로 이어가겠다는 의욕이 느껴진다.
두 명의 여성이 운영하는 이 갤러리의 앞날에 대해, 커다란 기대를 담아 지켜보며 응원해 나가고자 한다.
