Young visual artist Dan Isomura made his debut at Art Fair Tokyo.
When an artist you have been supporting for a long time takes the stage on such an occasion, it is a joyful moment not only for the artist but also for the collectors who have followed their work.
The exhibition booth was in the free-admission “Projects” area. Situated where visitors passed through, the works had the chance to be seen by many people.

Through repeated residencies overseas, Dan Isomura continues to send peaceful messages through art, addressing international and social issues as well as the challenges faced by minorities.
Sculptural work “Two Ghost from Hell,” 2019
Among the paintings surrounding this powerful sculpture was an abstract-style work that, drawing on the anecdote of “Cleopatra’s wine,” traced the circulation of water through stains.
The “Cleopatra’s wine” anecdote holds that “most of the water molecules in the single glass of red wine Cleopatra drank still remain on Earth today, even after being excreted from her body.”

“The wall Somewhere #2” is one work from this series.
Circulating water has been poured onto the paint applied to the canvas, and the pigment particles are being washed away and fading.
This expresses, as in “Cleopatra’s wine,” that things are not disappearing but rather moving somewhere else — likening the process to the migration of peoples and the movement of cultures. It is a wonderfully conceived work that expresses how the world circulates as many colors mingle together.

젊은 시각예술 작가 Dan Isomura가 아트페어 도쿄에 처음으로 얼굴을 알렸다.
오래도록 응원해 온 작가가 이런 자리에 서게 되는 것은, 작가 본인은 물론이거니와 컬렉터에게도 똑같이 기쁜 사건이다.
출품 부스는 무료 관람 구역인 “Projects”. 관람객이 오가는 자리여서 많은 사람들이 작품을 볼 기회가 주어졌다.

조각 작품 《Two Ghost from Hell》 2019년
임팩트 있는 조각을 둘러싼 회화들 가운데에는, “클레오파트라의 와인” 일화를 바탕으로 물의 순환 궤적을 얼룩으로 그려낸 추상 회화적 작품이 전시되어 있었다.
“클레오파트라의 와인” 일화란, “클레오파트라가 마신 한 잔의 레드와인 속 물 분자는, 몸 밖으로 배출된 뒤에도 그 대부분이 지금도 지구상에 남아 있다”는 이야기다.

《The wall Somewhere #2》는 그 시리즈 가운데 한 점.
캔버스 위에 칠해진 물감 위로 순환한 물이 부어지고, 그 물에 의해 물감 입자가 씻겨 사라져 가고 있다.
이는 “클레오파트라의 와인”처럼, 사라진 것이 아니라 어딘가로 이동하고 있음을 나타내는 표현이며, 민족의 이동이나 문화의 이동에 빗대기도 한다. 세계가 여러 색이 뒤섞이며 순환하고 있음을 표현한, 훌륭한 착상의 작품이다.
