Munch: A Retrospective — The Resonating Cry of the Soul
The Munch exhibition has begun at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Not only the famous masterpiece 《The Scream》 but many works from his early to late years captivated me. It was etched as one of the wonderful exhibitions even in 2018.
Special Goods Shop
What I introduce this time is the Munch exhibition goods. The variety is simply abundant, with lots of fun items.
The special goods shop
Proceeding through the exhibition along the route, the museum shop lies in the space beyond the last work.
It’s a special zone lined entirely with Munch-related goods.

The special goods shop — T-shirts, towels, handkerchiefs, bags, badges, pens, postcards… The variety is simply abundant, with so many in the lineup you can’t count how many kinds there are.

The strange kokeshi dolls caught my eye. Some cost over 10,000 yen, but they’re made in quite an authentic style.

The Pokémon collaboration products seem to be drawing attention, sold in limited quantities. There are venue-limited products too, and it feels like Pokémon fans will show up in droves.
The Pikachu cards will, in 2018,during the period from December 10 (Mon) to December 16 (Sun),be distributed at the exhibition venue to visitors to the Munch exhibition who wish to have one. Distribution locations, times, etc., will be announced later on the Munch exhibition’s official website.
*There will be no distribution from October 27 (Sat), the opening day of the “Munch exhibition.”
*Distribution is limited to one per person.
For those who say “Bring a Munch exhibition work into my home!”, a product called the miniature canvas is available.

The “Munch Scream Dome” has the Scream character inside a sphere—a sparkling, glittering product.
The food and drink section was substantial too, with tea and alcohol on sale.
What surprised me was the collaboration product with that Koikeya Karamucho—the product name is “Mucho no Sakebi (Mucho’s Scream).”
《The Scream》, which expresses the human inner self to an intense degree, and “Karamucho / Suppa Mucho,” which express spiciness and sourness to an intense degree, resonate across genres—realizing an unprecedented, offbeat collaboration as “Mucho’s Scream”!!
Gacha Corner
In the space just outside the goods shop, gacha machines are set up, making it hard to leave. Two kinds of gacha were installed.
Left: pins; right: Pokémon‘Scream’ Pokémon keychain. 400 yen per try.The “pin badge gacha” is 300 yen per try. Left: blue; right: red.The two types in three colors are split into a blue version and a red version.
Summary
There are still many goods I can’t introduce here. It’s simply amazing! I really want you to see it with your own eyes.
On the first day, the goods shop seems to have been extremely crowded. The 90-minute wait was surely only during the first-day chaos, but it’s something to watch out for.
At the Munch exhibition, maybe because the goods collaborate with Pokémon, the checkout wait for purchases was like 90 minutes, lol. Even the Jakuchu catalogue sales were a 30-minute wait, and yet… (*´-`) Maybe I’ll go see it once the Pokémon fans have settled down.
The article on the catalogue is here. Check this out too!
