【個展】東 慎也「テレポーテーション : ザナルカンド⇆レストルーム」rin art association

東 慎也さんの個展「テレポーテーション : ザナルカンド⇆レストルーム」に伺いました。
会場は、高崎駅近くのアートスペースrin art association《3階フロア》です。

私は、自分の頭の中に蓄積された違う文脈を出自とするイメージ(例えばテレビから流れてくる戦争の映像、美術館で見
た巨匠の作品、テレビゲームの画面、鏡に映る自分のだらしない体 etc,…) を主題としてよく取り上げます。
それらのイメージを絵画という場に召喚する行為は、私が見ている世界の輪郭を捉え直すとともに、別の文脈に属する
モノを使って新たな意味を付与するHIPHOPにおける韻と言葉遊びの連想ゲームに近いものがあります。(あまりHIPHOP
は聞かないのですが…)
「テレポーテーション:ザナルカンド⇆レストルーム」というタイトルはそういった私の作品を言い表す言葉はないものか、
と考えていた時に思いついたタイトルです。
ザナルカンドというのはTVゲーム、ファイナルファンタジーⅩに登場する異界の名称です。そしてレストルーム＝トイレ
という場所は自分の肉体から汚物を排泄する極めてパーソナルな空間です。
この２つのワードの間の距離を、瞬時に行き来しあう方法が私にとっての絵画なのだと思います。

I visited Shinya Azuma’s solo exhibition “Teleportation: Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom.”
The venue is the 3rd Floor of rin art association, an art space near Takasaki Station.

I often take up, as my subject matter, images accumulated in my head that originate from different contexts (for example, footage of war streaming out of the television, works by masters seen at a museum, screens of video games, my slack body reflected in the mirror, etc.).
The act of summoning those images into the arena of painting is not only a re-tracing of the contours of the world I am seeing, but is also close to the associative game of rhymes and wordplay in HIP-HOP, where new meaning is given by using things that belong to entirely different contexts. (I don’t actually listen to much HIP-HOP, though…)
The title “Teleportation: Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom” is one I came up with while wondering whether there was any phrase that could describe the work I make.
Zanarkand is the name of an otherworldly place that appears in the TV game Final Fantasy X. And the restroom — the toilet — is an extremely personal space in which one excretes waste from one’s body.
The way of instantly moving back and forth across the distance between these two words is, I think, what painting is for me.

参观了Shinya Azuma的个展「Teleportation：Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom」。
会场为高崎站附近的艺术空间rin art association《3层》。

我经常将自己脑中积累的、来自不同语境的图像（例如电视里播放的战争影像、在美术馆看到的大师作品、电视游戏的画面、镜中自己邋遢的身体等等）作为主题。
把这些图像召唤到”绘画”这一场域的行为，既是对我所看见的世界的轮廓的重新捕捉，也接近于HIP-HOP中通过借用属于不同语境之物赋予新意的押韵与文字游戏式联想游戏。（虽然我并不常听HIP-HOP……）
「Teleportation：Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom」这一标题，是我在思考”有没有能够贴切描述我作品的词语”时想到的。
Zanarkand是电视游戏《Final Fantasy X》中登场的异界的名称。而Restroom＝厕所，则是从自己身体里排泄废物的极其私人的空间。
在这两个词之间的距离中瞬间往返的方式，对我而言即是绘画。

Shinya Azuma의 개인전 「Teleportation: Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom」을 방문했습니다.
전시장은 다카사키역 근처의 아트 스페이스 rin art association 《3층》입니다.

저는 제 머릿속에 축적된, 서로 다른 문맥에서 유래한 이미지(예를 들어 TV에서 흘러나오는 전쟁 영상, 미술관에서 본 거장의 작품, 비디오 게임 화면, 거울에 비친 나의 흐트러진 몸 등등)를 주제로 자주 다룹니다.
그 이미지들을 회화라는 장에 소환하는 행위는, 제가 보고 있는 세계의 윤곽을 다시 파악하는 것이면서도, 다른 문맥에 속한 것을 사용해 새로운 의미를 부여하는 HIP-HOP의 라임과 말장난의 연상 게임에 가까운 면이 있습니다. (사실 HIP-HOP은 별로 듣지 않지만요……)
「Teleportation: Zanarkand ⇆ Restroom」이라는 제목은, 그런 제 작품을 표현할 만한 말이 없을까 생각하던 중에 떠올린 제목입니다.
Zanarkand는 TV 게임 Final Fantasy X에 등장하는 이계의 명칭입니다. 그리고 Restroom, 즉 화장실이라는 장소는, 자신의 육체로부터 오물을 배설하는 지극히 개인적인 공간입니다.
이 두 단어 사이의 거리를 순식간에 오가는 방법이, 저에게 있어서 회화라고 생각합니다.
